Yes. Use separate ordinary YouTube playlists—such as “Recent episodes” and “Episode archive”—to help viewers browse new and older livestream replays. If the show is set up as a YouTube podcast, keep its main podcast playlist as the complete show: YouTube recommends one podcast playlist per show containing full-length episodes from all seasons.
How the podcast playlist and episode shelves fit together
YouTube treats a podcast show as a playlist and its episodes as videos. Its podcast guidance recommends one public podcast playlist for each show, with full-length episodes from every season. Keep that playlist in the order listeners should consume the episodes.
Additional ordinary playlists can serve a different purpose: helping viewers browse a subset of episodes, find recent releases, or reach older livestream replays. For example, you could maintain “Recent episodes” and “Episode archive” alongside the complete podcast playlist. Those shelves are navigation aids, not separate podcast shows.
Create separate playlists for browsing
- Create ordinary playlists in YouTube Studio. Give each a clear label, such as “Recent episodes” or “Episode archive,” and choose its visibility deliberately. YouTube Studio supports managing playlist visibility and adding videos from your library. YouTube’s playlist management instructions.
- Add the relevant episode videos. Put newer episodes in the recent playlist and older replays in the archive playlist. A video may appear in more than one ordinary playlist, so an episode can remain in the complete podcast playlist while also appearing on a browsing shelf.
- Keep the podcast playlist complete. If the show is designated as a podcast, include its full-length episodes from all seasons in that show’s podcast playlist. Use ordinary playlists for clips, highlights, or subsets rather than designating those shelves as additional podcast playlists. YouTube’s podcast setup guidance.
- Check each finished stream before filing it. Confirm that the replay exists and has the intended visibility, then add it to the appropriate playlist. YouTube says archive visibility can be changed in the content controls. YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Do not assume an always-on stream will become an archive
YouTube says a live stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. That makes a continuous always-on broadcast a poor sole source for an episode archive: an ended stream may not yield a replay that you can add to a playlist.

Keep a local recording as a backup, and verify the YouTube archive after the stream ends before relying on it as an old episode. The 12-hour guidance describes YouTube’s archive behavior; it is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will appear successfully.
When to use an official series playlist
YouTube’s series playlist feature is more restrictive than an ordinary playlist. The account must be verified, and each video can belong to only one series playlist. Because a video cannot be assigned to multiple series playlists, ordinary playlists are usually the more flexible choice for overlapping shelves such as “Recent episodes” and “Episode archive.” See YouTube’s series playlist guidance.
