Yes—but not through a documented one-click Google Drive-to-YouTube connection. Use an encoder between them: make the episode file available to the encoder, play it as the encoder’s source, and send the resulting live feed to YouTube using a stream URL and stream key. For the most predictable do-it-yourself setup, use a local copy of the Drive file.
How the Drive-to-YouTube workflow works
Google Drive can store and play uploaded videos, while YouTube’s encoder workflow takes a live feed from an encoder. The official guidance describes those functions separately; it does not establish that a Drive sharing link can be used directly as an encoder source. Treat the local-file approach below as a practical workflow, not a native integration. Google Drive video playback help · YouTube encoder setup · YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
- Check channel eligibility and enable live streaming. YouTube currently requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a streamer aged 16 or older. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave setup until the day of the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Make the episode available to your encoder. Download a local copy from Drive, then confirm the encoder can open the file and its audio and video. The official material reviewed does not confirm that pasting a Drive share URL into an encoder will work. A file playable in Drive is not automatically compatible with every encoder.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Choose an encoder workflow, then copy the stream URL and stream key shown by YouTube into the corresponding encoder fields. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Follow the current YouTube encoder instructions.
- Load the episode and check the feed before going live. Add the local episode as a media source in your encoder. Confirm that the video is visible, audio is audible and correctly routed, and the YouTube preview and stream health look right. YouTube recommends advance setup, testing, previewing, and monitoring; encoder-specific controls vary by software.
- Start the broadcast, monitor it, and end it cleanly. Keep an eye on the encoder and YouTube stream health during playback. When the episode is finished, stop the encoder and end the stream in YouTube Studio. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, but check your current archive settings and confirm the resulting video is present.

File compatibility and playback
Google Drive Help lists WebM, MPEG4/3GPP/MOV with supported codecs, AVI, MPEGPS, WMV, FLV, MTS, and OGG among video types that can be played in Drive, while warning that support can vary by device. Drive playback is limited to 1920×1080. Those facts do not guarantee that a particular encoder supports the same file, codecs, or resolution. Check the encoder’s current media-source requirements and test the exact episode file before scheduling a broadcast. Drive upload processing may also continue after instant playback becomes available. Google Drive Help: Store and play video in Google Drive.
Bitrate, bandwidth, and stream settings
Choose encoder settings that the source, encoder, and YouTube ingest all support. YouTube documents options including codec, frame rate, bitrate mode, keyframe interval, stream URL and key, latency, and DVR controls; consult its current encoder settings guidance rather than assuming one setting fits every episode. YouTube recommends that total stream bitrate stay below available upload bandwidth and advises leaving about 20% spare capacity. Test the actual upload connection you will use; a headline download-speed result does not establish reliable upload capacity. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and YouTube’s stream health guidance.

Latency and DVR
Latency is the delay between the incoming feed and what viewers see. Lower latency can matter for audience interaction, but may increase buffering; for a prerecorded episode without real-time interaction, it may be less important. DVR controls whether viewers can pause or rewind during the live stream where enabled. Set these options in YouTube’s stream settings according to the viewing experience you want, and test them before the event. YouTube stream settings.
Clear podcast and documentary rights before rebroadcasting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have licensed third-party material, the rights owner may need to add your channel to a Content ID allowlist to prevent interruption. YouTube’s livestream terms also require the provider to have the rights needed for livestream exploitation, including applicable music rights, and to comply with applicable law and platform guidelines. Check permissions for music, clips, guests, archival footage, and other material in the episode before broadcasting. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams · YouTube Terms of Service.

Choose a setup for one episode or recurring playback
The right method depends on how often you broadcast and how much control or unattended operation you need.
- Computer encoder with a local file: A straightforward, controllable option for a one-off episode. The computer must stay on and connected while it sends the feed; the encoder must be able to read the file. YouTube supports software encoders, but the exact media-source steps depend on the software.
- Dedicated hardware encoder: A possible fit for a production setup that already uses dedicated encoding hardware. YouTube also supports software encoders, and the documented workflow does not make hardware a requirement for this use case.
- Cloud automation for recurring prerecorded programming: YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams. That listing alone does not establish its current price, Drive compatibility, or suitability for a particular workflow; verify those details with the provider.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running without leaving a computer on, StreamNeo plays uploaded videos from the cloud. Upload the episode or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not live camera input.
