Yes. A 24/7 YouTube stream can use playlist videos with different resolutions, such as 1080p and 720p, if the software playing those files can handle the mix and produce a stable live feed. YouTube transcodes the feed it receives for viewers; that does not guarantee that every playlist player can switch cleanly between differently sized MP4s.
Source-video resolution is not the same as live-stream resolution
There are two separate parts to check. First, the playlist software must read each source MP4 and handle transitions between files with different dimensions. It may scale every clip to one output size, or it may change output behavior at a clip boundary; that depends on the specific software.
Second, the encoder sends a live feed to YouTube at an output resolution and frame rate. YouTube says it automatically detects encoder settings by default and transcodes the incoming live stream into formats for viewers on different devices and networks. That transcoding happens after ingest: it cannot correct a blank frame, distortion, or other problem created when the playlist software handles a source file incorrectly. YouTube’s upload recommendations are a separate matter. They describe encoding uploaded videos, not a rule that all MP4s in a live playlist must have the same resolution. YouTube’s upload encoding guidance

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How to check a mixed-resolution playlist before going live
- Check the player’s documentation and settings. Look for support for mixed-resolution inputs, automatic scaling, and any limits on MP4 encoding. YouTube’s general live-stream guidance cannot establish how a particular third-party player behaves.
- Choose a live output resolution and frame rate. Base them on your source material and the upload connection available to the encoder. YouTube’s current H.264 live-ingest recommendations include 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps, and 6 Mbps for 720p at either 30 or 60 fps. These are live encoder recommendations, not requirements for the resolution or bitrate of every source MP4. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance
- Check the stream key’s resolution setting. YouTube recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. If you have configured a custom key for a manual resolution, make sure the feed from your software matches that setting. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance
- Test transitions using the actual files. Include changes between the different resolutions in your test. Check for blank video, distortion, unexpected output changes, or instability at clip boundaries. YouTube recommends testing before a live event and monitoring stream health while it is running. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance
- Confirm the whole chain, not just YouTube ingest. A stable feed in YouTube’s preview is evidence that the tested transition worked; it is not proof that every file or later transition will behave the same way. Test the playlist you intend to run.
What the bitrate recommendations do—and do not—tell you
For comparison, YouTube’s upload guidance recommends 8 Mbps for 1080p SDR uploads at standard frame rates and 5 Mbps for 720p SDR uploads at standard frame rates. Those upload figures concern file uploads, not the live feed from a playlist, and they do not require source clips in one playlist to share a resolution. YouTube’s upload encoding guidance

If you run playback and encoding locally, the computer, software, and internet connection must keep serving the live feed. For any local player or cloud playout service, verify mixed-resolution support and scaling behavior in that product’s own current documentation. YouTube’s documentation confirms that local encoders and cloud 24/7 tools are possible workflow types, but it does not establish that all such tools accept mixed-resolution files or how reliably they handle them.
