YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. After access is enabled, a stream can go live instantly. A new channel must also meet YouTube’s eligibility requirements, and a 24-hour broadcast may not be saved as a replay.
What has to happen before the first stream?
Creating a channel does not by itself mean you can start a livestream right away. YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Streamers must be at least 16 years old. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains these requirements.
Once you request or enable live streaming for the first time, allow up to 24 hours for activation. YouTube says that after the feature is enabled, a stream can go live instantly. That is the key timing distinction: the initial activation may take time; starting a later stream does not necessarily require another 24-hour wait. See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Will a 24/7 stream be saved as a complete replay?
Do not count on YouTube’s automatic archive to preserve a continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube says a stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a complete copy of the programme, make and retain a local recording. Details are in YouTube’s archive guidance.

What setup can send prerecorded video?
You need an encoder to send the video feed to YouTube. YouTube supports both software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. A dedicated hardware encoder is optional, not a condition for a new channel; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware for higher-production events. Its documentation does not certify a particular device or guarantee that any setup will play prerecorded material uninterrupted for 24 hours or longer.
For a continuous broadcast, assess the whole operating path rather than the encoder alone: whether the playback and encoding setup can run continuously, whether the internet connection is dependable, and whether you have a backup or local recording. YouTube does not guarantee uninterrupted playback for a 24/7 configuration.

How much upload bandwidth should you plan for?
YouTube advises keeping the total stream bitrate within the available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving a 20% margin. Network disruptions can interrupt a stream, so do not plan to use all the connection’s upload capacity for the broadcast. See YouTube’s streaming tips for its guidance.
What else can affect a new channel?
Stream limits
YouTube’s current guidance states a limit of up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. A single 24/7 stream is within those stated counts, but the limits do not guarantee that a particular stream will remain uninterrupted. Check YouTube’s live-streaming guidance and encoder instructions for the applicable account workflow.
