Yes—but “cheaply” depends on the whole mini PC’s measured power under your actual streaming workload and your local electricity rate, not the processor’s advertised TDP. A low-power mini PC may suit a simple encoder stream, but it is not automatically capable of every resolution, frame rate, or codec around the clock.
First distinguish the job: encoding a live camera or other live source, looping prerecorded video as a live stream, and simply watching YouTube are different workloads. This guide focuses on the first two.
What does a mini PC need to do?
Encoding a live source
An encoder converts video into a digital format that can be sent to YouTube. The mini PC must handle the selected source, resolution, frame rate, codec, audio, overlays, and streaming software without sustained overload. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains how to connect an encoder through YouTube Live Control Room.
Looping prerecorded video
A prerecorded loop is not the same workload as capturing and encoding a live camera feed. YouTube’s encoder help page lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. Its current terms and cost are not established here, so check the provider’s current details before comparing it with a computer you operate yourself.

Watching YouTube locally
Playing someone else’s YouTube stream on a mini PC does not make that PC the source of a live broadcast. If your goal is to keep your own channel live, you need an encoder setup or a service designed to stream prerecorded videos.
Why the processor’s TDP does not tell you the electricity cost
Intel specifies the N100 processor at 6 W TDP. That is a processor specification, not a measurement of a complete mini PC at the wall. Memory, storage, the motherboard, networking, cooling, and the power supply all contribute to the system’s draw. Intel explains processor TDP and where to find it in its TDP guidance; the N100 specifications list the processor’s 6 W TDP.

An N100 mini PC is a low-power category worth investigating, not a guaranteed fit for an unspecified stream. No specific N100 mini PC has been tested here, and no single processor figure proves that a particular system can encode your chosen workload continuously.
Measure the cost of your actual setup
Use a plug-in energy meter or another trustworthy method to measure AC power at the wall while the mini PC runs the streaming software, source, and settings you plan to use. Measure for long enough to represent normal operation, rather than relying on idle consumption or a brief peak.

- Record average wall power. Measure the complete computer during the intended workload, including its normal networking and peripherals.
- Convert watts to annual energy. Annual kWh = average wall watts × 8,760 ÷ 1,000.
- Apply your electricity rate. Annual electricity cost = annual kWh × the price per kWh on your bill.
- Compare like with like. If you are comparing with a cloud service, include its separate fee as well as any electricity cost, and compare the same streaming workload and operating period.
These formulas estimate electricity expense; they do not supply a universal price. Your tariff and measured system draw determine the result. Do not substitute the N100’s 6 W TDP, a power adapter’s maximum output, or idle-only consumption for the measured whole-system average.
Choose and test the mini PC for the stream you intend to run
Check workload fit before buying
- Identify whether you are encoding a live source or sending prerecorded video.
- Set the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, audio, and overlays before judging whether a system has enough headroom.
- Check that the streaming software and the system’s hardware encoding support the settings you plan to use.
- Compare complete-system power, cooling and fan noise, ports, network connection, warranty, and stability under sustained load—not processor TDP alone.
YouTube recommends RTMPS and describes H.264, H.265, and AV1 video options. Consult its current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the available settings and guidance; requirements depend on the stream you configure. YouTube transcodes an incoming live stream into formats for viewers, but your local system still has to deliver its chosen source and encoder output reliably.

Configure and validate the stream
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or configure the live stream you intend to run.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from the live setup and enter them in your encoder. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Choose encoder settings that match the source and the current YouTube guidance for resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframes.
- Run a representative test with the intended video, audio, motion, and overlays. YouTube recommends testing upload speed and monitoring stream health.
- Watch the computer and stream together. Check for sustained encoder overload, thermal problems, dropped frames, network instability, and YouTube stream-health warnings before relying on the setup.
Plan for interruptions and YouTube’s archive limit
A 24/7 setup needs a recovery plan for power loss, network failure, encoder crashes, and YouTube disconnects. Decide how you will notice a failure and restart or recover the stream; an always-on computer by itself does not provide automatic recovery.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That archive guidance is not a promise that a stream can remain uninterrupted indefinitely. For a long-running broadcast, monitor stream health and plan how the stream will be restarted or recovered if it ends.
