To keep two channels live at once, set up a separate stream for each channel and use a cloud service that explicitly supports two continuous YouTube outputs.
One Google Account can manage both channels
A Google Account is the sign-in identity; each YouTube channel is a separate channel identity. YouTube says one Google Account can manage up to 100 channels, and users can switch between them to act as a particular channel. Switching the active channel in YouTube does not itself start, stop, or combine live streams. YouTube Help: Manage YouTube channels.
Brand Accounts are another way to give channels distinct names and photos while managing them through a Google Account. That changes channel management, not the need to configure a live stream for each channel. YouTube Help: Manage your Brand Account.
Two channels need two stream configurations
YouTube’s Live Streaming API guidance says that when a user has multiple channels, a different stream must be created for each one. In practical terms, the cloud service needs a destination for each channel and the corresponding stream configuration or key. YouTube also documents cloud encoders as a way to send a live feed to a cloud service that distributes it to selected channels or destinations. The process can be repeated to broadcast multiple streams at once, subject to YouTube’s limits. This establishes that the general architecture is supported; it does not certify any provider’s exact two-channel configuration or uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Check eligibility and concurrent-stream limits
Before configuring a continuous broadcast, check the current requirements in YouTube Studio and YouTube Help. YouTube’s current help guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days. It lists a ceiling of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. Those are platform limits, not a promise that a cloud service supports that many outputs. If a channel has never streamed, enable live streaming in advance: YouTube says first-time enablement can take at least 24 hours. Confirm that both channels are eligible and enabled before scheduling the start of a 24/7 service. YouTube Help: Enable live streaming.
Set up two continuous broadcasts
- Confirm access to both channel identities. In YouTube, switch to each channel and verify that it is the intended destination. Confirm verification, live-stream eligibility, and any restrictions separately for both channels.
- Enable live streaming early if needed. Complete YouTube’s enablement process for each channel that has not streamed before, allowing at least 24 hours for first-time activation.
- Create or select a separate stream for each channel. Follow YouTube Studio or the provider’s connection flow while acting as the relevant channel. Keep the stream resources and keys distinct; do not assume that one channel’s key covers the other.
- Choose a cloud service with two persistent outputs. Confirm directly with the provider that the relevant plan supports two simultaneous YouTube destinations, separate stream configurations, and continuous playout. Ask how it handles reconnects, source looping, outages, and stream-key storage.
- Configure and test each destination separately. Send a test to each channel, check that the intended video and channel identity appear on each, and verify that both outputs remain active together before relying on them as 24/7 broadcasts.
Protect rights and follow YouTube policies
Cloud delivery does not grant rights to the program. YouTube requires the broadcaster to have the necessary rights for live content, including applicable music rights, and to comply with its Community Guidelines and applicable agreements. For a documentary channel, having a copy of a film or recording does not by itself establish that you may broadcast it. Make sure the license or other applicable rights cover public live streaming and the territories where viewers may access it. A cloud service can keep an authorized stream running; it cannot clear content rights on your behalf.
Compare service limits and the true cost
YouTube notes that cloud encoders may use subscription plans, while some providers offer limited free plans. Google Cloud’s Live Stream API, by contrast, is billed according to active channel time and resolution. Neither description gives a universal cost for two 24/7 outputs: the amount depends on the service, configuration, and operating time. For any provider, get confirmation of these details for the exact plan you would use:
- How many simultaneous YouTube channel destinations are included, and whether each uses an independent stream configuration or key.
- Whether the plan supports continuous playout, looping or scheduling, and recovery after a source, connection, or YouTube interruption.
- What media inputs are allowed and whether 24/7 operation is included.
- The total recurring price for two outputs at the intended resolution, plus any storage, transfer, or usage charges.
- How stream keys are authorized, stored, and revoked, and what support or uptime commitments apply.
