Not through a clock-based start-and-stop schedule documented in YouTube’s native live-stream workflow. YouTube lets you schedule an upcoming live event so viewers can find it and opt into reminders. Its encoder settings also include auto-start and auto-stop, but YouTube describes those as controls for starting or stopping from the encoder—not as a timetable that starts and ends the feed at chosen times.
What “schedule” means on YouTube
Scheduling an upcoming event
In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, you can schedule a stream for a future date and time. That creates an upcoming event viewers can see and promote, and lets them opt into notifications. Scheduling the event is not the same as scheduling the encoder to begin sending video at that time.
Starting and stopping an encoder feed
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow requires you to connect the encoder using the stream URL and key, start the encoder, wait for the preview, and click Go live. To end the stream, stop sending content and click End Stream. The documented steps include those actions; they do not establish that YouTube will perform them automatically at specified clock times.
What auto-start and auto-stop do
YouTube describes auto-start and auto-stop as settings that let the creator start or stop streaming from the encoder. That is encoder-triggered control, not a clock-time schedule. Do not treat these settings as a built-in daily start-and-stop timer.

How to handle a scheduled start or stop
For an event viewers should see in advance
- Schedule the event: Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, go to Manage, and schedule the stream.
- Set up the encoder: Configure it with the stream URL and key for the event.
- Start at showtime: Start the encoder, wait for YouTube’s preview, then select Go live as required by the workflow.
- End the feed: Stop sending content from the encoder and select End Stream.
This workflow provides an upcoming event and a planned start time for viewers, but the documented steps still require action to start and end the feed.
For unattended clock-based control
If the feed must actually begin and end at chosen times without someone performing those steps, you need an external scheduling or automation mechanism that controls the encoder or streaming service. The YouTube instructions described here do not specify such a mechanism, its setup, or compatibility with particular encoders, so verify those details with the provider you choose. An event scheduled in Studio alone is not evidence that the incoming feed will start or stop on a timer.

Long streams, archives, and DVR are separate issues
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archive condition, not proof that longer incoming feeds are prohibited. Separately, YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Archive behavior and DVR rewind are playback considerations; neither establishes whether a stream starts or stops on a clock schedule.
