Yes, if the NAS can continuously run a compatible encoder and maintain a reliable upload connection—but that depends on the specific device and software. YouTube accepts a live feed from an encoder; it does not require your video files to be hosted publicly on the NAS. A NAS can store the lofi tracks, host the encoder, or do both. Check the model’s supported software and sustained encoding capability before relying on it for an unattended 24/7 stream.
What has to run continuously
A 24/7 broadcast needs a source playlist, an encoder or encoding pipeline, an outbound connection to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint, and a way to monitor the stream. YouTube’s standard workflow sends the encoder’s feed using the channel’s stream URL and key. YouTube Help: stream using an encoder.
The NAS might serve only as file storage, run the encoder itself, or do both. Whether it can encode reliably is a model-specific engineering question: the operating system, processor or hardware encoder, available encoder software, target format, and sustained workload all matter. The general YouTube documentation does not establish that NAS devices as a class—or any particular model—can handle continuous encoding.
When to use a separate encoder
If the NAS cannot run a suitable encoder at the desired settings, a separate computer or hardware encoder can read the lofi assets from NAS storage and send the live feed to YouTube. You still need to confirm that the chosen encoder can run unattended and that the network connection can sustain the stream.

Configure the YouTube feed
Use the standard stream URL and key workflow

In YouTube Studio, set up a live stream and obtain its stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your channel.

Enter the URL and key in the encoder running on the NAS or on a separate device. For ordinary live content, YouTube recommends RTMPS; its documentation describes an RTMPS connection using port 443 and TLS. Use the endpoint and protocol supported by your chosen encoder. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Choose the output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate the encoder can sustain and your upload connection can support. YouTube’s published encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate encoding.

Set a two-second keyframe interval if your encoder exposes the setting. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Test with representative audio and motion, then check the YouTube preview and stream health before relying on the setup.

YouTube also documents RTMP (including RTMPS), HLS, and DASH options for its Live Streaming API. That API is not required for a creator using the ordinary encoder workflow. See YouTube Live Streaming API: liveStreams.
Check upload capacity and continuity
Your available upload bandwidth must exceed the stream’s total bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; for primary and backup ingestion, it recommends enough capacity for both bitrates plus that headroom. Network disruption can break the stream. See YouTube’s live encoder settings and network guidance.

Measure the upload capacity available to the device that will send the feed, rather than relying only on a plan’s advertised speed.

Use a stable network path and check whether the encoder can reconnect after a dropped connection. Confirm that any restart or recovery behavior works with your specific encoder and NAS; it is not established for NAS devices generally.

During setup, monitor the YouTube preview, stream health, and audio and video quality. If you configure backup ingestion, test the failover rather than assuming it will work.

Plan how you will notice a failure and recover from it. Continuous operation depends on the whole chain—source, encoder, network, and YouTube ingest—not just the NAS staying powered on.
Plan for archives and viewer rewind
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. If a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. Keep a local recording if preserving the full broadcast or making a replay matters; YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. A NAS may provide storage for that recording, but confirm that it has enough available capacity for the recording and retention period you want. See YouTube Help: archive live streams.
Viewer DVR is separate from your local recording. YouTube says viewers may be able to pause and rewind a live stream, but rewind may be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. See YouTube Help: DVR on live streams.

Clear the rights check before using lofi music
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including copyrighted music. If it identifies third-party content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the content remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube’s livestream terms require creators to have the rights needed to exploit live content on Google services, including relevant music licensing rights. See YouTube Help: copyrighted content in live streams.
Use music for which you have the necessary rights for live streaming and any archive you intend to keep. For licensed third-party content, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if that allowlisting step has not happened.
