Burt Sugarman is commonly assigned a net worth of $100 million, but that figure is not a verified personal balance sheet. Celebrity Net Worth describes it as a combined estimate for Sugarman and his wife, Mary Hart, and says its figures are estimates unless otherwise indicated. No public financial disclosure or itemized calculation establishes Sugarman’s current individual wealth.
How much is Burt Sugarman worth?
The most widely repeated figure is $100 million. Celebrity Net Worth presents that amount as a combined estimate for Sugarman and Mary Hart, rather than a confirmed figure for Sugarman alone. Its general methodology note says estimates draw on public sources and may also incorporate private tips or feedback from celebrities or representatives; the site cautions that figures are estimates unless noted otherwise. A 2025 ComingSoon article also gives $100 million, attributing the fortune to Sugarman’s production work, but it does not provide an independently verifiable calculation. The repetition of the same number is not a second financial measurement. ComingSoon’s 2025 article
What Sugarman’s career tells us—and what it does not
Television and film production
Sugarman is best known for creating and producing The Midnight Special. His credits also include The Wizard of Odds, The Richard Pryor Show, Children of a Lesser God and The Newlywed Game. The American Cinematheque creator record and Celebrity Net Worth list work spanning television and film, but credits do not disclose producer fees, ownership shares, residuals or profit. Earlier business and investment activity
A 1988 Washington Post profile described Sugarman’s earlier work in used-car sales, financing contracts and automotive distribution, including North American distribution of Ghia cars and later Maserati and Excalibur distributorships. The article also covered his involvement in television, films, fast-food ventures and corporate investments. Sugarman described the shift in a 1973 Los Angeles Times interview, quoted in the profile: “At 28, I got tired of all the beautiful cars and fun clients; I sold the distributorships and retired to play golf. After about five months of being a playboy, I got bored. That’s when I became involved with show business.” The Washington Post’s April 25, 1988 profile
That same profile reported that Sugarman paid $3 million for stock in Giant Portland & Masonry Cement in 1982 and acquired its Keystone plant in 1985. It said Giant Group reported $82.6 million in revenue in 1987. These are historical transaction and company-revenue figures reported in 1988—not Sugarman’s personal income, present holdings or net worth. The Washington Post’s 1988 reporting

Why reported property sales do not verify his wealth
Celebrity Net Worth reports that Sugarman and Hart bought a downtown Los Angeles Ritz-Carlton residence for $3.8 million and sold it for $6.7 million in 2018. The same profile reports that they sold an 11,000-square-foot Beverly Hills home for $27 million in 2018. These reported sale prices do not reveal net proceeds after costs, taxes or any debt, and they do not establish which assets the couple owns today. Celebrity Net Worth’s profile

The available sources do not establish a verified current net worth, Sugarman’s current asset ownership or liabilities, the value of any production rights, the terms of his production contracts, or current residual income. Past credits, investments and property transactions offer career context, but without an itemized accounting of assets and debts they cannot substantiate a present-day personal net-worth figure.
