It centers on Bhairava and his futuristic vehicle companion, Bujji. The trailer was published on 30 May 2024, and Hindustan Times reported the same day that the series would stream on Prime Video from 31 May 2024. The trailer is best understood as an entry point: it introduces a dystopian Indian setting filled with futuristic machinery before viewers reach the feature film.
What Bujji & Bhairava is
The project is an animated series rather than a live-action extension of the film. Hindustan Times describes it as an animated prelude, and Indian Express places it in the same universe as Kalki 2898 AD, following Bhairava through a dystopian world. Cinema Express describes the series as a prelude intended to build on the film’s audience, a framing that comes from Prime Video India’s content licensing director, Manish Menghani.

Because it is a prelude, its job is to introduce a world and a pair of characters, not to tell the main story of the film. Readers looking for the feature’s plot, cast roles or box-office performance will need the film’s own coverage. This article stays with the animated series, its trailer, and the promotional vehicle that accompanied the campaign.
Bhairava and Bujji
Bhairava
Bhairava is the human lead of the series, and the trailer presents him as the character through whom viewers enter the dystopian setting. The reporting available for this article does not establish further details of his backstory, so this piece does not offer one.
#1 Best Overall
Bujji
Bujji is presented as Bhairava’s robotic, futuristic vehicle companion, not as an ordinary car. Cinema Express calls Bujji a robot-car companion. The launch coverage of the promotional vehicle describes Bujji as a futuristic vehicle and Bhairava’s best friend, which signals that the character is meant to function as a partner in the story rather than as a prop.
Two different Bujjis: the animated character and the promotional vehicle
Coverage of the campaign uses the same name for two things that are not the same. The animated character lives inside the series. The promotional vehicle was a physical build made for the film’s publicity. Keeping them apart avoids a common confusion.
Rank #2
| Aspect | Animated Bujji (series) | Promotional Bujji vehicle (campaign) |
|---|---|---|
| Form | Animated robotic vehicle companion in a prelude series | Custom-built, life-size futuristic vehicle |
| Where it appears | In the Bujji & Bhairava trailer and series | At a launch event in Hyderabad |
| Date | Trailer published 30 May 2024 | Unveiled 22 May 2024, reported 23 May 2024 by Pentagan Media |
| How it was framed | Bhairava’s companion within the story | A major character and Bhairava’s companion, per the launch report |
| Availability | Viewable through the series’ release on Prime Video, subject to region | Not presented in the reporting as a consumer car or as a vehicle for sale |
The promotional build should not be read as a production car that fans can buy or drive. The coverage describes it as a life-size futuristic build made for a launch event, and nothing in the reporting presents it as a vehicle for sale.

Where to watch, and how to check
The streaming announcement is dated. It recorded a plan for Prime Video from 31 May 2024, and availability for a title like this depends on region, licensing and the catalog at the time a viewer looks. Confirm before planning to watch.
- Open the Prime Video app on your device, or visit the Prime Video website, and sign in with the account you use for viewing.
- Search for “Bujji & Bhairava” and check whether the series appears as a playable title.
- If the title does not appear, check the country or region shown in your account and in the app settings, since catalogs differ by country.
- Look at the title’s details page for the number of parts and the release date shown there, and compare them with the two-part prelude described in 2024 reporting.
If the series is not listed in your region, the 2024 announcement does not tell you when or whether it will become available there. In that case, the trailer on YouTube is the only confirmed public element covered in this article.

| Aspect | Bujji & Bhairava (animated prelude) | Kalki 2898 AD (feature film) |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Animated, two parts as described in 2024 reporting | Live-action feature film |
| Narrative role | Introduces the world, the dystopian setting and the Bhairava and Bujji pairing | Carries the main story of the franchise |
| Availability | Prime Video streaming announced from 31 May 2024; current regional availability not verified in this article | Not covered in this article; check the film’s current distribution listings |
Viewed in this order, the prelude works as a way in. It asks the viewer to accept an unusual vehicle partner and a setting that mixes machinery with a dystopian city before the feature is watched.
Reading “retro-futuristic” as a lens
The phrase “retro-futuristic” describes how the trailer looks at its material, not a genre category that the series or the film has been given. The evidence supports two features: futuristic vehicle design, embodied by Bujji, and a dystopian setting, which Indian Express attributes to the series. Those features are the basis for using the term here. No source reviewed for this article presents retro-futuristic as an official label for the project.
What is not established
- No audience or viewing figures for the trailer or the series are available from independent sources.
- No critical reception of the prelude is established in the reporting used for this article.
- No toy, model, collectible or licensed merchandise for Bujji has been confirmed. Fan speculation about products should not be taken as evidence that any exists.
- The attendance figure given in the vehicle launch release is a promotional claim from the producers, not an independently verified number, and is not used here.
The strongest confirmed facts are the dates, the names and the two descriptions of Bujji as a futuristic companion. Anything beyond those should be checked against current listings or official channels.
