What is the Bruce Springsteen ABC special?
Bruce Springsteen: Backstage and Backstreets is a primetime interview special, not the separate documentary Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. ABC described the special as a look at Springsteen’s career and personal life, including his health, Patti Scialfa’s health challenges, and the inspirations behind his music. The special also anticipated the separately titled documentary, which ABC described as forthcoming on Hulu and Disney+ in 2024. ABC’s October 15, 2024 announcement provides the original program details.

What appears in the trailer and special?
The trailer promotes an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, co-anchor of Good Morning America. ABC says the special includes footage and conversations from a Washington, D.C., concert, the Toronto Film Festival, Asbury Park, and the Stone Pony. Stephanopoulos also speaks with members of the E Street Band about working with Springsteen.
In ABC News’s October 17, 2024 preview, Springsteen was described as a 20-time Grammy Award winner; that is ABC’s dated description, not a refreshed award count. Stephanopoulos called the access a privilege and said the conversations reveal “the man behind the legend.”

Where can you watch the full special?
ABC announced an original broadcast on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at 10 p.m. EDT, followed by next-day streaming on Hulu and Disney+. ABC’s episode listing gives the program a runtime of 42:05 and a TV-PG rating. Disney+ also has a catalog listing for the 2024 program.
Those listings do not establish current access in every country or confirm present Hulu availability. Streaming catalogs and territory rights can change, so check the service available in your location for the current listing.

How this differs from Road Diary
Backstage and Backstreets is an interview-led TV special built around Stephanopoulos’s conversations with Springsteen and E Street Band members. Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band is a separate documentary title. ABC’s announcement said the special would look ahead to that documentary; the two should not be confused when searching a streaming catalog.
