Shawn and Carrie Purdy are Brock Purdy’s parents, but their story extends well beyond their son’s NFL career. Shawn played college and minor-league baseball, Carrie helped with the family’s Arizona hot-tub business, and together they supported three children through athletics, faith and significant financial uncertainty.
Who are Brock Purdy’s parents?
Shawn and Carrie Purdy are the parents of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. They became publicly recognizable through their son’s NFL career, but their own story began long before Brock reached the league.
Shawn pursued professional baseball after playing at the University of Miami, while Carrie has largely remained out of the public spotlight. Together, they raised three children, operated a hot-tub business in Arizona, supported a household centered on organized sports, and navigated serious financial uncertainty during the 2008 housing crash.
The available reporting presents Shawn and Carrie as a private couple whose influence on Brock came less from a single dramatic intervention than from years of persistence, work, faith and support. It does not establish several details often repeated on low-quality celebrity biography sites, including their exact ages, wedding date, net worth, education histories or current residence.

Shawn Purdy’s baseball career
Shawn Purdy played baseball at the University of Miami, a prominent college baseball program. University of Miami records show that the California Angels selected him in the 16th round of the 1991 MLB Draft.
That selection began a professional minor-league career that official biographies from the 49ers and Iowa State describe as lasting from 1991 through 1998. Shawn also spent time in the San Francisco Giants organization and reached the Double-A and Triple-A levels, according to a San Francisco Chronicle profile.
Those accomplishments should not be confused with a Major League Baseball appearance. The available sources document minor-league participation and organizational affiliations, but they do not establish that Shawn played in an MLB game.
His baseball career became more difficult after an elbow problem. The Chronicle reported that he underwent cortisone treatment, surgery and rehabilitation. The injury was part of the reason the later stages of his playing career became increasingly difficult, although it would be too simplistic to say that one factor alone ended his professional ambitions.
With a family to support and a business beginning to take shape, Shawn ultimately chose not to continue pursuing another professional season. His experience gave Brock an example of high-level competition, but it also exposed the practical uncertainty that can accompany a sports career.
What did Carrie Purdy do?
Carrie Purdy is Brock’s mother and Shawn’s spouse. Compared with Shawn, she has maintained a substantially lower public profile, and reliable biographical information about her is limited.

The strongest documented description is that Carrie helped Shawn operate the family’s hot-tub sales business and supported their children as they pursued athletics. Public reporting does not provide a well-sourced account of her age, maiden name, education, former occupation or personal finances.
That limited record is important. Carrie should not be presented as an athlete, celebrity or business executive based on unsourced claims. Nor is there a need to invent a conventional public biography for someone who has generally lived privately. The reporting supports describing her as a hands-on parent and business partner whose family role was significant, even though much of her individual history is not publicly documented.

After Shawn’s baseball career, he and Carrie operated a hot-tub sales business called Fantastic Spa Outlet. A report from SFGATE placed the couple’s booth at the Mesa Market Place Swap Meet in Mesa, Arizona.
The business reportedly formed part of the family’s life for decades. Brock sometimes spent weekends there as a child while his parents spoke with customers about hot tubs. That detail offers a more complete picture of his upbringing than the usual NFL-focused biography: alongside sports fields and training, he saw his parents working a customer-facing small business.
The swap-meet booth also helps explain why Shawn’s transition away from baseball should not be framed simply as the end of an athletic dream. He was balancing the demands of a family, the realities of professional sports and the need to build a reliable source of income.
Available reporting describes the business as part of the family’s past, but it does not establish that the booth is still operating in exactly the same form today. Current ownership, revenue and business status should not be assumed from older accounts.

How many children do Shawn and Carrie Purdy have?
Shawn and Carrie have three children:
- Whittney Purdy: Their eldest child, Whittney played softball at Southeastern University.
- Brock Purdy: Their middle child, Brock became a quarterback at Iowa State before entering the NFL and joining the San Francisco 49ers.
- Preston “Chubba” Purdy: Their youngest child also pursued football as a quarterback.
The family’s athletic background is notable, but it should not reduce Whittney or Preston to supporting characters in Brock’s story. Whittney’s softball career and Preston’s football career show that organized sports were a major part of the household before Brock became nationally famous.
Faith and parenting
A Fellowship of Christian Athletes profile described Shawn and Carrie as establishing a strong spiritual foundation for their children. According to that account, the family attended church, studied the Bible together and incorporated devotional reading into family life.
Because the source is a faith-oriented organization, those details are best presented as FCA’s account of the family rather than as a complete, neutral biography of their private religious life.
The broader parenting theme supported by the available reporting is consistency. Shawn and Carrie continued supporting their children’s athletic goals while managing work and financial pressure. Brock has credited his family with advice and encouragement, but the evidence does not support the simplistic idea that his parents directly engineered his NFL success.

One of the most difficult periods in the family’s story came during the 2008 housing crash. In reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle, Brock recalled losing housing stability and moving from house to house while he was young. The same coverage described Shawn trying to keep the family business going while the family continued investing time and resources in the children’s athletic pursuits.
This account adds important context to the family’s later success, but it should not be treated as a complete financial history. The available sources do not establish specific debt totals, foreclosure details, bankruptcy, income figures or property ownership. The careful conclusion is that the housing crisis disrupted the family’s stability and that Shawn and Carrie continued working and supporting their children through that period.

How did Shawn and Carrie influence Brock Purdy?
The documented influence is best understood as a family environment rather than a single formula for producing an NFL quarterback.
- Shawn modeled competitive athletics: His college and minor-league baseball career gave Brock a close view of the demands and uncertainty of professional sport.
- Both parents modeled work: The Fantastic Spa Outlet business showed the children that family responsibilities continued regardless of athletic ambitions.
- They supported multiple athletes: Whittney, Brock and Preston each pursued organized sports, requiring sustained parental time and commitment.
- They remained supportive during adversity: The family’s housing and financial difficulties did not end their children’s athletic opportunities.
- They emphasized faith, according to FCA: Church attendance, Bible study and devotionals were described as part of the children’s upbringing.
It is reasonable to say these circumstances helped shape Brock’s outlook and gave him a support system. It is not reasonable to claim that they alone caused his NFL career or that the family followed a guaranteed path to athletic success. Talent, coaching, opportunity and Brock’s own work were also part of the story.
Where are Brock Purdy’s parents now?
Shawn and Carrie have generally kept their lives private, so there is no well-documented public account of their current day-to-day activities, finances or residence.
A report dated July 2025 said that Brock and his wife, Jenna, welcomed their first child. If that report remains current at publication, Shawn and Carrie are now grandparents. The milestone is a useful update, but it does not change the central story: most reliable coverage of Shawn and Carrie concerns their earlier work, parenting and support of their children rather than an ongoing public career of their own.

The bigger picture
Shawn and Carrie Purdy’s story is not primarily a celebrity family profile. It is the story of a private couple who moved between professional sport, small-business work and family hardship while supporting three children with athletic ambitions.
Shawn’s baseball career, Carrie’s quieter role in the business and household, the family’s experience during the housing crash and their continued commitment to their children all provide context for Brock Purdy’s background. The most accurate conclusion is not that his parents discovered a secret formula for success, but that they offered consistency and support through circumstances that were often uncertain.
