Brie Bella returned to WWE in 2026 after once describing Bryan Danielson’s AEW role as a possible obstacle to her comeback. She has since said she would like a final singles run and a title opportunity, but no specific singles match is confirmed in the cited reports.
What did Brie Bella say about returning to WWE?
In July 2025, Brie discussed why she thought a WWE comeback might be complicated. In secondary coverage of The Nikki & Brie Show, she was quoted saying, “I know my roadblock is the fact that my husband is with the rival company.” The report connected that concern to her belief that some people at WWE might feel uncomfortable with her returning while Bryan Danielson worked for AEW. The podcast wording is attributed here as reported by AfterBuzz TV; the original recording was not independently verified in the cited material.
Brie also suggested that saying she was “waiting on the call” could be a cheeky way to move on from repeated questions about when she would return. Her roadblock comment described her perception of the situation, not an announced WWE policy or a confirmed rejection.
Why did Brie think she might not return?
The concern she described was the overlap between her potential WWE work and Danielson’s role with AEW, a rival promotion. Her remarks do not establish that WWE had formally barred her from returning, or that Danielson’s employment was an official condition of any decision.

The possibility remained open. In December 2025, when asked about a comeback alongside Nikki, Brie said, “if you build it, they will come, type of thing. So hopefully that means that I’ll come. We’ll see.” The hopeful answer did not confirm a deal or a booking, according to WrestleZone’s report.
Did Brie Bella return to WWE?
Yes. Brie returned in 2026. In comments reported after the return, she said she had been shocked when WWE called because she thought the door had closed. She also praised the women’s tag division and said she and Nikki wanted to pursue the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. ProWrestling.net reported her remarks.

The return followed a longer period away from regular in-ring competition. After WrestleMania 32 in 2016, Brie said it was her last match “for a while,” but clarified that she did not mean forever: “I wouldn’t say my last match forever, just my last match that you’ll see in a while.” That distinction appears in a WWE.com interview published April 7, 2016.
Does Brie Bella want a singles run?
Yes. In July 2026, Brie said she would like “to do a single run” and go for whichever title she could fit into, describing the idea as a way to end her in-ring career. The comments were made on The Sal Licata Show and carried in a transcript by Fightful. They express her preference; they do not announce a particular opponent, championship match, or schedule.

What does the reported injury mean for a possible next match?
In August 2026, Brie said she fractured her scapula in two or three places during a SummerSlam match. The injury was reported by ProWrestling.net. That report does not provide a recovery timeline or confirm when she might wrestle again, so it cannot establish whether or when a singles run will happen.
