What is known about Fonda’s time away from screen roles?
People said Fonda had not appeared onscreen since 2002, citing the miniseries Snow Queen and four episodes of The Chris Isaak Show. That is a report about her last screen appearances, not a formal retirement announcement or a statement of her current plans. People is the source for that characterization.

No. A separate Parade report published August 14, 2026, described Fonda having lunch in Los Angeles with her assistant; it was not a joint outing with Elfman. Parade also repeated a reported 2023 response about returning to acting—“I don’t think so, it’s too nice being a civilian”—and attributed the quotation to the Daily Mail. It is therefore a secondhand quotation, not a statement verified by Parade as a direct interview. Parade’s 2026 report covers the later, separate sighting.
