Brandi Carlile and Patty Loveless performed Vince Gill’s “When I Call Your Name” at the 59th Annual CMA Awards in Nashville on November 19, 2025. The live performance was part of the tribute to Gill, who received the 2025 CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The CMA’s video archive lists the performance under both singers’ names.

For the ceremony performance, start with the CMA performance archive, which bills the clip “Lifetime Achievement Award to Vince Gill, Brandi Carlile ft. Patty Loveless – ‘When I Call Your Name’.” The CMA’s post-show recap said performance clips were available on YouTube and that the full show would stream on Hulu the following day. Streaming and video availability can change, so check the official archive for current access.

Why Carlile and Loveless sang the song
The performance honored Gill as the 2025 recipient of the CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The CMA announced the honor on November 10, 2025; the award recognizes artists with national and international prominence, stature, and historical impact. At the ceremony, George Strait—the 2024 recipient—surprised Gill by presenting him with the award, according to the CMA event recap.
Gill’s connection to the song is central to the tribute. “When I Call Your Name” was his 1990 breakthrough release. The CMA says it earned both CMA Single of the Year and Song of the Year honors, as well as a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male. Gill’s official biography gives the same song and award context.

The CMA performance and Vince Gill’s original recording
These are two distinct listening options, not two versions of the same release. Carlile and Loveless’s rendition is a live tribute from the 2025 ceremony; Gill’s original is the studio recording on his album of the same name. The Vince Gill release archive lists the title track on that album. The 2025 performance should not be confused with Gill’s original recording.
The MCA Official Store has listed the album on vinyl, though its vinyl page showed sold out when checked, and lists the song on the compilation CD Ballads: Best of Vince Gill. Inventory and listening access may change.

Gill’s history with the CMA Awards
Gill hosted the CMA Awards for a record-tying 12 years, according to the CMA’s recap. In its November 2025 announcement, the CMA also cited 18 CMA Awards, 22 Grammy Awards, and 30 million records sold. Those are figures published by the CMA in that announcement; Gill’s official biography currently gives a different CMA award count, so the totals should not be combined as though they came from one consistent tally.
At the presentation, Strait praised Gill’s musicianship, songwriting, and singing, as reported by the Associated Press. That remark concerned Gill; the cited coverage does not provide a named speaker’s assessment of Carlile and Loveless’s musical arrangement. No specific staging, instrumentation, or division of vocal lines is asserted here.
