Boy George and Culture Club drummer Jon Moss revisit how they met and the romance that followed in a clip from Alison Ellwood’s documentary Boy George & Culture Club. George remembered being struck by Moss at their first meeting; Moss recalled being attracted to George and “absolutely smitten.” The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in June 2025.
What George and Moss recalled about meeting
In the documentary clip, George remembers Moss arriving in a Golf convertible, wearing earrings and smelling of perfume. “It was love at first sight, basically,” George said, recounting his reaction. His description is a personal memory, not a neutral account of the encounter.

Moss offered his own recollection in the clip: “I was really attracted to him, like a crush, although I never had a relationship with a man before.” He added, “And I was absolutely smitten.” The two accounts describe an immediate attraction, while reflecting each man’s perspective.
Rolling Stone Australia’s June 6, 2025, report covered the scene; Culture Club’s official site reproduced the coverage and included Moss’s comments on June 5.

How George described the relationship later
In a 1995 interview with Terry Gross, George said, “We were lovers pretty soon after we met.” He described the relationship as wearing down as the band’s success brought pressure, jealousy and immaturity. This is George’s retrospective account of what happened between them.
George also connected the relationship to Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.” In the same interview, he described it as a song about Moss and their relationship, calling it “kind of woe is me.” The archived Fresh Air interview preserves his comments.

Why their accounts of privacy differ
George has described frustration with keeping the relationship private. Moss, speaking separately in a 2016 interview, said he thought people knew they were dating and questioned why someone’s sexuality needed to be publicly disclosed. Their remarks come from different interviews years apart; they should be understood as distinct perspectives, not treated as a single agreed account.
Moss’s 2016 interview with Metropolis Japan sets out his view of privacy and disclosure.

How the documentary places the romance in Culture Club’s story
Boy George & Culture Club is broader than the relationship. Culture Club’s official site reported a runtime of 96 minutes and described a film that covers the band’s success and decline, its internal tensions, the romance, and George’s heroin addiction. Coverage of the clip says the relationship inspired songs including “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” and played a role in the band’s dissolution; it does not establish that the relationship alone caused the breakup.
Band member Roy Hay said the film affected him deeply. “I wasn’t prepared for (the film) to hit me so powerfully,” he said, describing it as “quite a journey.” The Culture Club official-site report of June 10, 2025 discusses the film and Hay’s reaction.
