Does Boruto: Two Blue Vortex’s New Villain Mean the Sand Siblings Will Return?

The new Shinju may be connected to Shinki, but the theory—and the possible return of Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro—remains unconfirmed.

Not confirmed. The theory behind this headline is that a new Shinju—also called a Divine Tree person—may be based on Shinki, Gaara’s adopted son. If that link proves true, it could bring Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro, the Three Sand Siblings, into the story. But the available sources establish neither Shinki’s identity as the villain’s base nor the siblings’ return.

What the new villain could have to do with Shinki

The speculation stems from a preview for Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14. A September 18, 2024 ScreenRant story, surfaced in an IMDb News index, argued that the new Shinju member’s name and design pointed toward Shinki. The indexed summary itself described the origin as unconfirmed; its claim was an inference from those clues, not an official identification. (ScreenRant story summary)

That distinction matters because a possible resemblance or connection does not, by itself, establish who the character is based on or what role they will play. The story’s headline says “confirms,” but the evidence described in the available summary supports only a theory.

Why that theory points to Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro

Shinki is Gaara’s adopted son. The theory therefore creates a possible route for the Sand siblings—Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro—to become involved in events surrounding the new Shinju. The 2024 article predicted they would most likely be involved, but that prediction was conditional on the proposed Shinki connection. It is not a verified announcement that any of the three will appear.

What the creator has said about the Divine Tree people

In an official Naruto/Boruto site Q&A, artist Mikio Ikemoto said the Divine Tree people have newly awakened self-consciousness and reflect their base models. He added that if one seems different from its base, it may be showing that person’s “true” face. (Official Ikemoto Q&A)

This gives useful context for why readers might look for clues connecting a Divine Tree person to an existing character. It does not identify this particular Shinju as being based on Shinki, and it offers no confirmation of a future Sand siblings appearance.

Where the manga stands now

The chapter 14 preview is no longer the latest point in the story. VIZ’s official Boruto: Two Blue Vortex listing reaches chapter 37, dated September 17, 2026. Release dates and availability can vary by market. (VIZ chapter listing)

Shueisha’s announcement for volume 9, released in Japan on October 2, 2026, describes the continuing Mamushi crisis: the counter-operation has failed, Mamushi’s numbers are growing, and Boruto and Code face a tense development. That publisher synopsis does not confirm the Shinki theory or the Sand siblings’ return. (Shueisha volume 9 announcement)
