The Borderlands 4 gameplay trailer shown during PlayStation’s State of Play on April 30, 2025, introduces the game’s new Vault Hunters in the middle of a dangerous fight. Vex and Rafa take the foreground; Harlowe and Amon complete the four-character starting roster. This is the original gameplay reveal, not a newly released trailer.
What the April 30, 2025 trailer shows
The footage follows combat on Kairos, a previously hidden planet ruled by the Timekeeper. 2K presents the Hunters’ battles as part of a broader struggle, with four regions and factions resisting his control—not as action in an interchangeable arena. The sequence foregrounds two characters and their distinctive abilities, while giving a wider look at movement, weapons, gear, and cooperative play.
Graeme Timmins, Creative Director at Gearbox Software, introduced the footage on PlayStation.Blog as “our deepest ever look at some explosive, carnage-filled gameplay, all running on PlayStation 5 Pro.” That describes the reveal’s presentation; it is not an independent performance assessment.
Which Vault Hunters appear in the reveal?
Vex
Vex is a Siren who channels phase energy and can summon deadly shades. Her supernatural abilities give the trailer’s combat a different visual and tactical identity from Rafa’s weapon-focused approach.

Rafa
Rafa is an Exo-Soldier and former Tediore trooper. His experimental suit can digistruct weapons, putting adaptable firepower at the center of his role.
Harlowe and Amon
Harlowe and Amon are the other two members of the starting lineup. The trailer segment puts Vex and Rafa in the foreground, so it is useful to distinguish the pair showcased there from the complete roster of four.

The official announcement describes parties of up to four players, with instanced loot, dynamic level scaling, and individual difficulty. Those features support cooperative sessions while allowing each player’s loot and challenge settings to be handled individually. The trailer’s group action is therefore one part of a game presented for both individual play and co-op, rather than evidence that a group is required.
