What happened to Tyrone Jones?
Jones, 37, was fatally shot on February 7, 2021, while sitting in his Jeep in St. Albans, Queens, QNS reported. The outlet’s account of trial testimony said a GPS tracker had been placed beneath Jones’s Jeep on or about January 29, and that Stokes fired 11 shots into the vehicle.
Prosecutors described the killing as retaliation for an altercation between Stokes and Jones at Jones’s birthday party in October 2020. That is the prosecution’s account of the motive, as reported by QNS; it should be distinguished from the jury’s reported verdict on the charges.

After the verdict, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz called the killing “a calculated murder.” QNS quoted her describing Stokes as “a part-time actor” who “stewed for months after being thrown out of a birthday party for his own inappropriate behavior.” At sentencing, Katz said that “Justice has now been served” and that Stokes would spend 25 years to life in prison.
