Spoilers throughout. “Red Rabbit” is the clue that helps Frida realize she has been to Slater King’s island before. The island’s flower erases memories, allowing the men to hide their assaults; when Frida understands the pattern, she uses the same mechanism against Slater. The epilogue shows her in control of his company and keeping him impaired. As director and co-writer Zoë Kravitz has confirmed, the cycle continues—only Frida now occupies Slater’s position.
What does “Red Rabbit” mean?
The housekeeper’s recognition of “Red Rabbit” signals that Frida’s island visit is not a first encounter. Because the flower has repeatedly erased her memories, she has no clear recollection of what happened before. The phrase points toward an earlier version of events and makes the audience reconsider Frida’s memory gaps, the women’s familiarity with one another, and the island’s seemingly carefree holiday atmosphere. The official screenplay is the primary source for the phrase and its scene; Kravitz’s interview confirms the ending’s repeated-cycle interpretation.

What was happening on the island?
The island’s luxurious retreat conceals a deliberate system of drugging, assault, and forgetting. The men use a flower called desideria, whose effects include memory loss, to obscure their abuse of the women. Frida’s memories return in fragments, helping her understand Jess’s disappearance and recognize the larger pattern. The Atlantic’s plot account describes the flower’s amnesiac effects and Frida’s recovering memories; the screenplay provides the story’s own language and scenes.
How does Frida turn the tables on Slater?
Once Frida recognizes what the flower has been doing, she uses its memory-altering effect against Slater. By the epilogue, she is married to him and in control of his company, while he remains impaired by the substance. The reversal gives Frida material power, but it does not simply dismantle the arrangement that harmed her: she has taken Slater’s place within it.

Why does the finale say the cycle continues?
Kravitz says the ending, in which Frida takes over and the cycle continues with her in Slater’s position, was always intended. She describes Frida’s ambition this way: “Frida doesn’t want Slater King, she wants to be Slater King.” In the same interview, Kravitz says power is what attracts Frida to the island. Those comments make the final takeover more than a revenge twist: it is the film’s deliberately unsettling endpoint.
The film does not dictate one emotional reading of Frida’s last expression. Kravitz says it can register as happiness, anger, triumph, sadness, or several feelings at once. The ending makes her success real within the story, but leaves viewers to judge its cost and what it means to inherit the power that enabled the abuse.
