Richardson played the antagonist, a villainised ex-boyfriend. Netflix Australia later listed the film as a 2023 release and included him in its cast.
What was Blake Richardson’s first major film role?
PerthNow reported on 18 May 2021 that Richardson had joined It Only Takes A Night, an independent Australian film starring The 100 actor Eliza Taylor. The report described it as Richardson’s first major movie role since he graduated from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2017. It said filming was then underway in Western Australia; that is a detail from the 2021 report, not a current production update.
Richardson told PerthNow: “The premise of the film is that it’s sort of a romantic comedy and female empowerment story,”
PerthNow described his character as the antagonist: a villainised ex-boyfriend. Richardson said the part seemed to fit how he was perceived on camera: “I have always been told, ever since I have been on camera, is that ‘you have a jerk face,’ and ‘you look like a bad guy’… I have very goldfishy eyes that look menacing on camera, so this is a role I have always imagined would come my way,”

What happened to the film after the 2021 casting report?
Netflix Australia now lists It Only Takes a Night as a 2023 Australian romantic comedy. Its synopsis describes four best friends rallying for a girls’ night after a breakup, and the cast listing includes Richardson. The Netflix Australia title page says the film is available to download. That listing documents the film’s later release and Australian service listing; it does not establish availability in every country or guarantee future availability.

PerthNow reported that Richardson was 25 when its article was published in May 2021 and had graduated from WAAPA in 2017. Its description of It Only Takes A Night as his first major movie role is specifically framed in relation to his career after that graduation; it should not be read as a claim that this was his first acting work of any kind.
