Black Sabbath’s original lineup reunited for its final performance at Back to the Beginning, held at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5, 2025. Ozzy Osbourne played a solo set before joining Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward onstage. The event has passed; a film of the concert is scheduled for a limited worldwide cinema release beginning October 28, 2026.
What happened at Black Sabbath’s final concert?
Back to the Beginning brought Osbourne together with the band’s original lineup for the first time in 20 years. The official announcement billed the show as the final performance of both Black Sabbath and Osbourne. Osbourne first performed a short solo set, then joined the band for its final bow.
The reunion brought together:
- Ozzy Osbourne, vocals
- Tony Iommi, guitar
- Geezer Butler, bass
- Bill Ward, drums
Osbourne described the return to Birmingham in the February 2025 announcement reported by the Associated Press: “It’s my time to go back to the beginning … time for me to give back to the place where I was born,” he said in a statement.
Who else performed?
The event featured a broader rock and metal bill. The Premier League’s post-event account names Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Tool, Lamb of God, Anthrax and Mastodon among the performers. The full event roster and the participants featured in the concert film are not necessarily identical.

The announcement describes a feature combining the final show with reflections from musicians inspired by the band and behind-the-scenes material. It credits Ben Wainwright-Pearce as director for screen and Tim van Someren as director of the live concert, and says the film is presented in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound. Those production details do not confirm a home-video edition; the announcement does not specify a DVD, Blu-ray or other physical release.
What the band and event participants said about the farewell
In the film announcement, Osbourne’s wife and manager Sharon Osbourne recalled what he wanted from the show: “And he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”

Why the reunion mattered
Black Sabbath’s return was both a final concert and a farewell in the city where Osbourne said he was born. The Premier League reported that the band had sold more than 75 million albums; that is the figure published by the league, not an independently verified sales tally here. The July 5 show brought the original four members together for a last performance, while the forthcoming film offers a cinema presentation of that event and its surrounding stories.
