Five episodes stand alone in the usual anthology tradition; the exception is the finale, which continues the story of season 4’s “USS Callister.” This guide covers each episode’s approximate runtime, cast, premise, themes, continuity, and spoiler-sensitive details.

Plot
Amanda is a schoolteacher whose life is threatened by a serious medical emergency. Her husband, Mike, turns to Rivermind, a high-tech medical system that can keep her alive. The immediate crisis is solved, but the treatment comes with continuing financial and personal costs.
What begins as a desperate attempt to save Amanda forces the couple into increasingly extreme choices. The technology is no longer an optional convenience once Amanda’s survival depends on it, creating the episode’s central pressure: how freely can someone consent to a service when refusing it means losing access to life-saving care?
What the episode is about
“Common People” examines subscription-based healthcare, unequal access to advanced medical technology, and the way recurring digital services can become unavoidable. Its horror is not simply that Rivermind has a price; it is that the price can keep changing while the customer has no realistic way to walk away.
Rivermind is a fictional technology within the episode, not a real healthcare service or product.

2. “Bête Noire”
Runtime: Approximately 49–50 minutes
Cast: Siena Kelly as Maria; Rosy McEwen as Verity; Michael Workéyè as Kae; Ben Bailey Smith as Gabe; Amber Grappy as Yudy; Ravi Aujla as Mr. Ditta; Elena Sanz as Camille; Hannah Griffiths as Luisa
Spoiler warning: The section below discusses major developments.
Plot
Maria is a successful food researcher or development executive at a confectionery company. Her routine changes when Verity, a former schoolmate, appears at a focus-group tasting for the company’s miso-flavored Hucklebuck candy bar. Verity soon enters Maria’s workplace and personal life, while small changes to supposedly shared facts begin making Maria appear confused or unstable.
Maria tries to establish that reality is changing around her, but everyone else seems to remember events differently. The situation moves from workplace unease to gaslighting, police involvement, and a confrontation over Verity’s apparent ability to alter reality.
Themes and continuity
Netflix frames “Bête Noire” as a workplace dark comedy and a parable about gaslighting. The episode’s tension comes from the social consequences of being unable to prove an experience that nobody else appears to share.

3. “Hotel Reverie”
Runtime: Approximately 76–77 minutes
Cast: Issa Rae as Brandy Friday; Emma Corrin as Dorothy Chambers; Awkwafina as Kimmy; Harriet Walter as Judith Keyworth
Plot
Hollywood star Brandy Friday enters an unusually immersive remake of a vintage romantic film. The technology places her inside the film’s world, where she must follow the script if she wants to return home.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe project is presented as a way to revive a struggling studio. But this is more than virtual production or an elaborate acting exercise. The immersive mechanics expose Brandy to risks created by the film’s rules, while the remake’s use of a recreated performance raises difficult questions about who owns a dead actor’s image and whether an artificial version of a performance can have identity or agency.
Kimmy is associated with Redream, the technology used to place a modern actor into a classic film. Emma Corrin plays Dorothy Chambers, the long-dead starlet whose AI rendering forms part of the remake.
What to know before watching
“Hotel Reverie” combines Hollywood satire, romance, AI recreation, and virtual production. Viewers may notice thematic or visual similarities to “San Junipero,” especially in the way technology gives people access to an altered reality. However, it is more accurate to call that a critical comparison than to describe “Hotel Reverie” as an official sequel or continuation of “San Junipero.”
Redream and the AI recreation of Dorothy Chambers are fictional elements of the story.
4. “Plaything”
Runtime: Approximately 45–46 minutes
Cast: Peter Capaldi as older Cameron Walker; Lewis Gribben as younger Cameron Walker; James Nelson-Joyce as DCI Kano; Michele Austin as Jen; Will Poulter as Colin Ritman; Asim Chaudhry as Mohan Thakur
Plot
Cameron Walker is an eccentric loner obsessed with a mysterious 1990s video game. After his arrest in connection with a grisly cold case, he explains his history to investigators.

His account reaches back to his younger life as a game journalist and to a project connected with Tuckersoft developer Colin Ritman. The story gradually links the apparently modest game to artificial lifeforms known as Thronglets and to consequences that may extend beyond the screen.
Connections to Bandersnatch
Will Poulter’s return as Colin Ritman connects “Plaything” to the Tuckersoft mythology established in Black Mirror: Bandersnatch. Netflix’s character material describes younger Cameron as an introverted journalist who meets Colin and becomes attached to the artificial life Colin created.

Themes
“Plaything” is part police interrogation, part retro-game story, and part technology parable. It asks whether artificial life deserves moral consideration, how obsession can isolate a person, and who is responsible when a seemingly trivial digital creation has consequences outside its intended boundaries.
The Thronglets are fictional artificial lifeforms, not a real game or software product.
5. “Eulogy”
Runtime: Approximately 46–47 minutes
Cast: Paul Giamatti as Phillip; Patsy Ferran as the Guide
Spoiler warning: The section below discusses major developments.
Plot
Phillip is a lonely, emotionally closed-off man who is contacted after the death of Carol, his former girlfriend. Carol’s family asks him to contribute to a memorial. He receives access to Eulogy, a system that allows users to enter photographic memories, and begins reviewing images from his relationship with Carol.
Phillip has damaged or removed Carol’s face from photographs he kept, apparently attempting to erase the relationship. As the system guides him through those images, he discovers that his long-held version of their breakup was incomplete and self-protective.

The reconstructed memories force Phillip to reconsider Carol, his own behavior, and the emotional harm caused by the story he chose to remember.
Why “Eulogy” stands out
This is primarily a memory-and-grief story rather than a conventional horror episode. Its technology externalizes the act of revisiting the past, but the photographs do not provide a perfectly objective truth. They preserve evidence while still being filtered through resentment, denial, selective recall, and the meanings people assign to particular moments.
Eulogy is a fictional system within the episode.
6. “USS Callister: Into Infinity”
Runtime: Approximately 89–90 minutes
Cast: Cristin Milioti as Nanette Cole; Jimmi Simpson as Walton; Billy Magnussen as Karl; Milanka Brooks as Elena Tulaska; Osy Ikhile as Nate Packer; Paul G. Raymond as Kabir Dudani
Spoiler warning: This section discusses the premise and continuity of the season 7 finale.
Plot
Robert Daly is dead, but the digital crew of the USS Callister remains trapped in an online universe. Captain Nanette Cole leads the crew as they face new survival problems and threats. The official premise makes clear that their problems are only beginning.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Death is a central new threat for returning character Elena Tulaska. The sequel expands the original episode’s confined digital nightmare into a larger survival narrative, while continuing to ask whether digital copies are people with rights, autonomy, and the ability to consent.
Why you should watch the original first
This is the first direct sequel in Black Mirror history. Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Milanka Brooks, and Osy Ikhile return as characters from season 4’s “USS Callister.” Watch the season 4 episode before the finale to understand the crew’s history, Robert Daly’s abuse of power, and the significance of their digital existence.
The episode’s major concerns include abuse of power, corporate control, consent, autonomy, digital personhood, and survival. It is the season’s clearest example of ongoing franchise continuity rather than a self-contained anthology story.

What order should you watch season 7?
- Watch season 7 in release order if you want the intended progression from “Common People” through “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” All six episodes were released simultaneously on April 10, 2025.
- Watch season 4’s “USS Callister” first before the season 7 finale. This is the only essential continuity preparation.
- Consider watching Bandersnatch before “Plaything.” The connection through Colin Ritman and Tuckersoft is useful context, but the episode remains understandable without it.
- Treat Easter eggs as optional. References such as Barnies/Bernies and Hucklebuck add texture rather than functioning as prerequisites.
Season 7 themes and what makes it different
Season 7 continues the series’ interest in technology, identity, memory, media, artificial intelligence, simulated realities, and social control. It also broadens the season’s format in two noticeable ways.
- Two unusually long episodes: “Hotel Reverie” runs roughly 76–77 minutes, while “USS Callister: Into Infinity” runs roughly 89–90 minutes.
- A direct continuation: The finale revisits an existing story rather than introducing a wholly separate world.
- Technology as dependency: “Common People” focuses on a service people cannot realistically refuse, while the other episodes explore dependence on reality-altering, memory-reconstructing, or life-simulating systems.
- Human identity under pressure: The season repeatedly asks whether a person remains fully themselves when their body, memories, performance, or consciousness is mediated by technology.
Optional extras for fans
Netflix’s editorial pages include a path to official Black Mirror merchandise through Netflix Shop. Availability can change, and the research for this guide did not verify season 7-specific inventory or an affiliate program, so treat the shop as an optional destination rather than a recommendation for a particular product.
A digital Black Mirror season 7 soundtrack has also been released under Netflix Music, with music credited to multiple composers. The available research does not establish an official season 7 DVD or Blu-ray release, nor does it verify a physical soundtrack edition. Generic marketplace listings and fan reports should not be treated as confirmation of physical media.

When did Black Mirror season 7 release?
All six episodes premiered simultaneously on Netflix on April 10, 2025.
Do I need to watch earlier Black Mirror episodes first?
Most of season 7 can be watched independently. Watch season 4’s “USS Callister” before “USS Callister: Into Infinity.” Bandersnatch is useful background for “Plaything” because of its Colin Ritman and Tuckersoft connection, but it is not essential.
Is Hotel Reverie a sequel to San Junipero?
No confirmed official continuity link has been established. “Hotel Reverie” can be compared thematically and visually with “San Junipero,” but it should not be described as a direct sequel.
Is there a Black Mirror season 7 DVD or Blu-ray?
The available research confirms streaming availability and a digital season 7 soundtrack, but does not establish an official season 7 DVD or Blu-ray release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
Black Mirror season 7 is best approached as five mostly standalone experiments followed by a feature-length continuation of “USS Callister.” Start with release order, revisit season 4’s “USS Callister” before the finale, and expect the season to move between healthcare economics, gaslighting, AI performance, artificial life, grief, and digital personhood.
