A fan video from a Billy Joel concert in New York City showed his ex-wife Christie Brinkley laughing and dancing as he sang “Uptown Girl,” according to ABC News. Brinkley appeared on the Madison Square Garden screen; the report does not say she joined Joel onstage or identify the exact date of the performance.
What happened at the concert
ABC News published its report on April 29, 2024, describing a fan video from a recent New York City concert. In the clip, Joel performs “Uptown Girl” while Brinkley reacts on the venue’s big screen. The report does not provide a concert date, so the performance cannot be pinned to a particular night from that account alone.

The headline’s “dances” refers to Brinkley’s visible reaction in the video. It is not a report that she came onstage to perform with Joel.
Why “Uptown Girl” has a personal connection
Joel released “Uptown Girl” in 1983, and Brinkley starred in its music video that year. ABC News reported that Joel said in a 2010 interview with Howard Stern: “I started dating Christie, and rather than it being about all these different girls, she became the uptown girl.” His account connects the song’s focus to the beginning of their relationship.

Joel and Brinkley were married from 1985 to 1994 and have a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel. That history helps explain why Brinkley’s appearance during the song drew attention, without establishing anything beyond the lighthearted moment shown in the fan video.
The song’s chart and certification figures
ABC News reported that “Uptown Girl” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. The report did not specify the year for either figure; it is the available source for these figures here, rather than a retrieved Billboard chart record or RIAA certification entry.

A previous public moment
The 2024 clip was not the only reported occasion of Joel and Brinkley sharing a concert moment: a separate report in 2014 also covered an appearance involving the two. The 2024 video is therefore one instance of their public connection to the song, not evidence that it was their first or only such moment.
