Betty and Dan Broderick had four children: Kim, Lee (also known as Kathy Lee), Daniel Jr. and Rhett. Public reporting documents their different roles at trial and their later, differing views on Betty’s release. Betty died on May 8, 2026; a Court TV report said Daniel told TMZ that his siblings were with him at her bedside. Beyond that family update, reliable recent reporting does not establish detailed current biographies for all four siblings.

Who are Betty Broderick’s children?

Betty and Dan Broderick’s children are Kim, Lee—also called Kathy Lee—Daniel Jr. and Rhett. Their public comments and involvement in the case have not been uniform, and their courtroom roles or statements about parole at particular times should not be treated as a complete account of their relationships with either parent.

What did they do during the trials?

During the trials, Kim testified for the prosecution and Lee testified for the defense, according to ELLE’s 2020 account. Those are historical descriptions of their testimony, not evidence that either sibling represented the views of the whole family or that their relationships remained unchanged.

What were their views on Betty’s release?

Later parole coverage described Lee as advocating for Betty’s release and Daniel as opposing it. Rhett had also publicly supported release in an earlier Oprah interview. These positions were reported in different contexts and at different times; they do not establish what each sibling thinks today.

What is known about the children now?

The clearest recent family update followed Betty’s death. Court TV reported on May 8, 2026, that Daniel told TMZ he and his siblings were at Betty’s bedside. The report concerns her final illness and the siblings’ presence, not their individual current circumstances.

Profiles published in 2020 described the siblings as generally private. Marie Claire reported then, citing Kim’s Facebook, that Kim, Lee and Rhett lived near one another in Idaho. That dated report does not establish where they live now. The available recent reporting does not provide a dependable present-day account of each sibling’s occupation, residence or personal life, so claims about those details should not be inferred from older profiles.

Kim’s account of her mother

Kim published Betty Broderick, My Mom: The Kim Broderick Story in 2014. It offers a source for Kim’s perspective; it should not be presented as representing all four siblings’ experiences or views.

The real family and the TV dramatization

Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story is a television dramatization, not a current biography of the Broderick children. The siblings are real people whose public comments have been limited; fictionalized scenes should not be used to fill gaps in what is known about their lives.

Context: Betty Broderick’s conviction and death

The Los Angeles Times reported that a jury convicted Betty of two counts of second-degree murder after a second trial in 1991 and that she was sentenced to 32 years to life. She died on May 8, 2026, aged 78, while serving that sentence. The children were not responsible for their parents’ actions, and the record of their differing public responses should not be collapsed into a single family position.
