Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThere is no single best ringtone site for every phone. Zedge is the broadest mainstream starting point, but it includes advertising and premium content. Android usually accepts a downloaded MP3 directly; an iPhone normally requires importing the file into GarageBand and exporting a ringtone of up to 30 seconds. Choose the source by phone, file format, download behavior, and licensing—not by the word “free” alone.
Quick recommendations
| Service | Best for | iPhone | Android | File or workflow | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zedge | Large, general-purpose selection | Download first, then use GarageBand or another supported import method | MP3 can be selected or moved to the Ringtones folder | Ringtones, notifications, alarms and wallpapers; app and web access | Free access coexists with advertising, credits and premium items; licensing varies by upload |
| Audiko | Browsing and creating tones | Check current app and web workflow | Check current app and web workflow | Pre-made tones and creation tools are described by the provider ecosystem | Current availability, pricing and country support should be checked on the site |
| Tones7 | Potential browser-first downloading | Reported MP3/M4R options still require checking the current page and GarageBand step | Potential MP3 download | Current format and download behavior not independently confirmed here | Do not treat it as safe, ad-free or one-click without checking the exact download path |
| Mobile9 | Community-uploaded variety | Verify current files and import steps | Verify current files and import steps | Community content | Moderation, licensing, file quality and advertisements can vary |
| MyTinyPhone | Conventional ringtone-library browsing | Verify current format and iPhone workflow | Verify current MP3 workflow | Current catalog and file behavior require checking | Do not rank it as a best choice without confirming availability, ads and licensing |
The most dependable platform-specific choices are therefore Zedge for broad discovery, a clearly licensed audio library for lower copyright risk, Android’s built-in ringtone picker for MP3 files, and Apple’s GarageBand workflow for iPhone.
What makes a ringtone website genuinely useful?
Free access at the final download
Check whether “free” means a free preview, a download after watching an advertisement, a free account, a limited tier, credits, or a trial that converts to a subscription. Follow the final download button rather than trusting a search-result label.
Correct format for your phone
Android guidance from Google describes transferring an MP3 to the phone’s Ringtones folder and selecting it in sound settings. iPhone users need an import/export step; an MP3 or M4R file does not automatically appear in the iPhone ringtone list.

A clear, honest download page
Prefer a filename-linked download with limited redirects. Fake download buttons, pop-ups, CAPTCHA walls and requests to enable browser notifications are reasons to leave the page.
Safety and privacy
HTTPS is necessary but does not guarantee that a file or app is trustworthy. Install apps only from Google Play or the App Store, review permissions and subscription terms, and never sideload an APK merely to obtain a ringtone.
Licensing information
A site hosting an audio clip may not have permission to distribute it. Original recordings, public-domain material and files with a clear creator license are safer choices than unidentified commercial-song uploads.

Zedge: the practical all-purpose starting point
Zedge offers ringtones, notification sounds, alarms and wallpapers through its website and mobile apps. Its download page provides the official app routes, while its Android help and ringtone-management help document service behavior.
Recommended Free Tools
Zedge’s own comparison article calls it an overall choice, but that is a first-party marketing claim rather than independent testing: Zedge’s comparison. In practical terms, expect a freemium model. Zedge documents video advertisements before some Android downloads and refers to credits and premium content. Catalog quality and licensing can differ between individual community uploads, so inspect each item.
For Android, the app may be convenient. For iPhone, treat Zedge as the place to obtain an audio file—not as a guarantee of one-tap installation. You will generally still need GarageBand or another Apple-supported import route.

Alternatives: what is and is not established
Audiko is positioned as a browse-and-create service, but its current platform coverage, pricing and country availability should be confirmed at audiko.net. Zedge’s descriptions of Audiko and alternatives are competitor-supplied: Zedge versus Audiko and Audiko alternatives.
Tones7, Mobile9 and MyTinyPhone are possible browser or community options, but current catalogs, ownership, licensing, advertising and download paths were not independently confirmed. Use the linked official domains, inspect the actual file and stop if the page relies on deceptive controls.
How to download without the common traps
- Start at the provider’s official domain or its official app-store listing.
- Preview the tone and confirm the filename and extension.
- Click only the control associated with the audio file; close any advertisement tab that opens.
- Do not enable browser notifications to receive a ringtone.
- Reject unexpected APK downloads and install apps only from Google Play or the App Store.
- Check whether the item is free, ad-supported, credit-gated, account-gated or premium before completing the download.
- If a file has no extension, inspect its file information instead of renaming it blindly. A name ending in
.mp3does not by itself prove that the file is valid or safe.

- Select the downloaded sound and tap Save.
If the tone is missing
- Connect the phone to a computer and open internal storage.
- Copy the MP3 into the Ringtones folder.
- Disconnect the phone, reopen ringtone settings and select the file.

Apple’s supported procedure is in Apple’s GarageBand instructions. A ringtone can be shorter than 30 seconds but cannot exceed 30 seconds.
- Install GarageBand from the App Store if needed.
- Touch and hold the GarageBand icon, then tap Create New Audio Recording.
- Tap Tracks, tap the instrument icon, then open the Loops Browser.
- Choose Files and locate the audio saved in the Files app or iCloud Drive.
- Drag the file into the Tracks view.
- Trim it to 30 seconds or less and move the clip fully to the left to remove unintended silence.
- Return to My Songs, select the project, then tap Share → Ringtone.
- Name the tone, tap Export, then choose Use sound as and select Standard Ringtone, Standard Text Tone or Assign to contact.
Protected or undownloaded Apple Music files cannot be used for this purpose. If GarageBand cannot see the file, save it locally in Files, use GarageBand’s Files browser and drag the audio into the track rather than merely previewing it. To choose an exported tone later, use Settings → Sounds & Haptics; for one person, use Contacts → contact → Edit → Ringtone, as described by Apple at Apple sound settings.

Copyright: “free” does not establish permission
Downloading without a charge does not prove that the uploader owns or licenses the recording. Commercial music clips can involve reproduction, distribution, synchronization or other rights, and the answer can depend on jurisdiction. Prefer content identified as original, public domain or creator-licensed; read the item’s license and use audio you own or are permitted to use. This is practical risk guidance, not a legal conclusion about any particular recording.
Quick troubleshooting
- Advertisement opens instead of the file: close the new tab, return to the original page and use the filename-associated button. If fake buttons continue, choose another provider.
- Android cannot find the tone: move the MP3 to Ringtones, use Files by Google’s Set as ringtone, and reopen the sound picker.
- GarageBand cannot find the file: save it in Files or iCloud Drive, confirm it is not DRM-protected and drag it from GarageBand’s Files browser.
- The tone is too quiet: remove leading and trailing silence and preview it through the phone speaker; excessive boosting can distort audio.
- The iPhone clip is too long: trim it manually before export for more control than automatic shortening.
The Bottom Line
For the fastest legitimate route, use Zedge or another clearly licensed source to obtain an MP3 for Android, then select it through Android’s sound settings. On iPhone, plan on the extra GarageBand import and export step, keep the clip at 30 seconds or less, and treat every “free” upload as unlicensed until its permission is clear.
