For a local playlist that plays in order and starts over when it ends, OBS Studio with its VLC Video source is the most direct documented option. Install VLC, add the videos as a playlist, and enable playlist looping. Your computer and streaming setup must stay running. If you want the stream to continue without a computer at home, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud: upload, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
Which option fits your setup?
| Option | Where it runs | Best fit | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Cloud | Keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube without leaving a computer running | Upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. It loops uploaded videos and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. |
| OBS Studio + VLC Video source | Your computer | A hands-on playlist with control over order, looping, and shuffle | VLC must be installed; the computer and stream setup must remain operational. |
| OBS Studio Media Source | Your computer | Repeating one local video | Its Loop setting repeats a single file; it is not the multi-video playlist workflow. |
| Gyre or Upstream.so | Cloud services listed by YouTube | Investigating hosted continuous-stream options | Check each service’s current plans and terms directly. YouTube’s listing is not a comparative review. |
| AJA HELO Plus | Standalone hardware | Scheduling prerecorded playback to YouTube Live without a computer | It requires a dedicated device; confirm current product details and terms with its maker. |
YouTube lists OBS, Gyre, Upstream.so, and AJA HELO Plus in its encoder guidance. The listing describes AJA HELO Plus’s PlayToStream functionality as scheduling prerecorded media without a computer; it does not establish comparative prices or reliability. See YouTube’s encoder guide.
Set up a rotating playlist in OBS
Use the VLC Video source for several files. The source supports a playlist, looping, and optional shuffle. VLC must be installed separately for OBS to use this source. OBS’s documentation specifies that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Install VLC and match the architecture. Install VLC before opening the playlist source. If you use 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, open the scene where the video should appear. In the Sources panel, select +, choose VLC Video, and create or select the source. Add the local video files to its playlist.
- Set the rotation behavior. Enable Loop Playlist to restart at the first file when the playlist runs out. Leave Shuffle Playlist off to retain the listed order; enable it if you want random rotation. OBS documents Loop Playlist as specifying whether the source restarts after it has run out of media files. Loop Playlist defaults on and Shuffle Playlist defaults off.
- Check source visibility behavior. By default, the VLC source stops when it is not visible and restarts when it becomes visible. Keep the source visible for uninterrupted playback, or account for this behavior if scenes change.
- Connect OBS to YouTube and rehearse. Configure OBS as an encoder for your YouTube broadcast, then make a private or unlisted test before relying on an unattended schedule. Confirm that playback advances through every file and returns to the start as intended.
OBS’s documented VLC playlist and Media Source controls are described in OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Repeat one video instead
If you only need one clip to repeat, add an OBS Media Source, select the local file, and enable Loop. That setting defaults off. Use VLC Video when you need several videos in one rotating playlist; Media Source is the simpler choice for a single repeating file. The same visibility behavior matters: a source that is hidden stops by default and restarts when shown.
Make sure your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave channel eligibility checks until the day you need the broadcast. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide, then rehearse the stream before scheduling it unattended.

Use only video you have the right to stream
A playlist source automates playback; it does not grant permission to rebroadcast its contents. Use your own material or content you are authorized to stream, including any music, footage, and other included work. Public availability on YouTube or elsewhere is not permission to retransmit a video in your live broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube-only stream of uploaded videos, StreamNeo keeps playback in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode the video. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, then start the free first day.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing or fails to load: install VLC and check that its architecture matches OBS. OBS’s guidance calls for 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS.
- The playlist stops instead of returning to the first file: check that Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source.
- Videos play in an unexpected order: turn off Shuffle Playlist if you want the files to play in their listed order.
- Playback stops when you switch scenes: the source stops when hidden by default. Keep it visible where needed or plan around the stop-and-restart behavior.
- You cannot start a YouTube live stream: verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours for enablement.
- A scheduled stream is not ready for unattended use: rehearse privately or unlisted first. Verify the playlist rotation, the YouTube connection, and that your chosen local computer or hosted service will remain available for the intended duration.
Costs and practical trade-offs
The available official documentation does not establish current prices for Gyre, Upstream.so, or AJA HELO Plus. Check providers directly rather than relying on an assumed price comparison. A local OBS setup avoids a separate hosted-streaming service but depends on your own computer and connection staying operational. Hosted services move the playback off your computer; dedicated hardware avoids using a computer but requires a device. StreamNeo publishes its plans on its pricing page.
