If you need a prerecorded playlist to run continuously on YouTube Live, choose a cloud playout service that explicitly loops playlists—or use a local encoder and keep the computer running. Restream itself advertises uploaded-video scheduling, playlists, and looping, so it may not need replacing; check its current plan limits for the exact loop behavior and duration you need. StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider for an always-on YouTube stream: it runs uploaded videos from the cloud, supports up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

First decide whether you need a loop or a scheduled event

These are different jobs. A continuous loop repeats a playlist after it finishes and is intended to keep a channel live. A scheduled prerecorded broadcast starts a finished video at a chosen time and ends when that video finishes. A local encoder gives you direct control over a stream, but the computer and connection must remain available.

Compare options by playlist restart behavior, scheduling, cloud versus local operation, production controls, destination support, and the current total plan cost. A vendor’s claim about audience growth or monetization is not evidence that looping itself will improve those outcomes.

Best alternatives, by use case

Option Best fit What is documented Trade-off
StreamNeo Always-on YouTube playback from uploaded videos Cloud looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded-video quality up to 4K 60fps without re-encoding. It streams to YouTube only; it is not a camera-based live studio.
Gyre Continuous cloud playlist playout Its product workflow describes uploading videos, making a playlist, connecting YouTube, scheduling a broadcast, and restarting the playlist when it ends. Cloud convenience comes with vendor dependence and recurring plan cost. Performance and growth claims are marketing, not independently established outcomes.
StreamYard A scheduled prerecorded event Its help article says a video can start automatically at a selected time, even if the user is offline, and the broadcast ends when the video finishes. Prerecorded mode does not run through the normal studio, so overlays and media assets are not controlled as they are in a standard live session.
OBS Hands-on local encoding and scene control YouTube’s encoder help is the official starting point for setting up an encoder-based live stream; OBS is a local encoder option. Your computer, encoder, and internet connection must keep working for the stream to continue.
Restream Uploaded-video scheduling, playlists, and looping within its product Its product page advertises scheduling, playlists, and looping, with different upload-library capacities by tier. The retrieved official page does not settle every duration cap or playlist-loop restriction. Verify your specific use case against current help documentation before choosing a plan.

StreamNeo: cloud looping without keeping a computer on

It streams the videos as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encoding or quality tiers. Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage pooled across active slots, looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and support from the StreamNeo team.

How the other options handle prerecorded video

Restream: verify the exact loop limits

Restream’s current product page advertises uploaded-video queueing, scheduling, playlists, and looping. It displays a Premier tier with a two-hour upload library and scheduling; a Marathon tier with a four-hour library, scheduling, playlists, and looping; and a Media tier with a 12-hour library, 4K video, scheduling, playlists, and looping. The page displayed $0 monthly for these rows when accessed, which may reflect a promotion or product-page state; do not treat it as stable pricing without checking current checkout details. Restream’s product page

A competing service’s July 10, 2026 comparison reports a 40-hour maximum and up to ten loop iterations, while also saying playlists cannot loop. Those specific limits are not established by the retrieved official product page. Because the limits determine whether a long-running playlist will work, confirm the current Restream help documentation and your plan before relying on them. LiveReacting’s comparison

Gyre: a documented continuous cloud workflow

Gyre’s official workflow is to upload video files, assemble a playlist, connect YouTube, schedule the broadcast, and let the playlist restart when it ends. YouTube’s encoder directory also describes Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded YouTube videos. These descriptions establish the intended workflow, not comparative reliability or audience results. Gyre · YouTube’s encoder directory

StreamYard: schedule one finished video

StreamYard’s help article describes scheduling a prerecorded video to start automatically at a selected time and end when it finishes. You can still view comments on the destination, but prerecorded mode lacks the normal live-studio control of overlays and media assets. That makes it a fit for a scheduled event, not evidence of an indefinitely repeating playlist. StreamYard Help Center

OBS: use a local encoder when you want control

OBS is a hands-on route when you want local control over scenes and encoding. Begin with YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and confirm your live-stream access and stream configuration in YouTube Studio. The operational trade-off is fundamental: if the computer sleeps, the encoder crashes, or the network drops, the stream can stop. YouTube encoder setup and tools

Choosing a service and avoiding common surprises

  • Test playlist completion, not just stream start. Confirm that the selected service restarts the playlist after its final video rather than ending the broadcast.
  • Check caps at the plan level. Upload-library duration, playlist looping, and maximum stream length may be separate limits. Get the current answer for the plan you intend to use.
  • Match the format to the production. A scheduled finished video may suit a one-off event; an always-on channel needs explicit continuous playback; scenes and live overlays call for a live studio or local encoder.
  • Plan for interruption. A local workflow depends on your hardware and connection. For a cloud service, check what happens if YouTube ends the ingest or a scheduled broadcast reaches its end.
  • Use content you have rights to stream. A prerecorded video being broadcast as live does not remove copyright obligations or guarantee YouTube monetization. Review YouTube’s current policies and ensure you have rights to the video, music, and other included material.
  • Do not buy on growth promises alone. Claims about views, retention, RPM, or faster monetization should be treated as vendor marketing unless independently substantiated.

Other names to investigate

LiveReacting, OneStream Live, Upstream, and Castr appear in a July 2026 vendor-authored comparison of always-on or prerecorded workflows. That comparison is a starting point, not a neutral feature audit. Before shortlisting any of them, check each provider’s own current documentation for YouTube support, continuous looping, playlist behavior, limits, and total plan cost. LiveReacting’s comparison

Frequently Asked Questions

Can YouTube Live play a prerecorded video as a live stream?

Yes. A prerecorded video can be sent through an encoder or a service that schedules or loops uploaded video, provided your YouTube live-stream access is available and you follow YouTube’s policies.

Does a 24/7 loop guarantee more views or monetization?

No. Looping keeps a stream running; it does not guarantee recommendations, views, watch time, or monetization.
