Restream can import Dropbox videos and schedule prerecorded broadcasts, but its playlist feature is not a nonstop loop: playlists are limited to 24 hours and 40 entries, and do not repeat. Once available in Restream, a playlist can be scheduled to start automatically. The playlist limit is 40 entries and 24 hours total, and the playlist cannot loop. Restream’s plan details surfaced in its playlist help page list Marathon with a 4-hour library and 1080p maximum, and Media with a 12-hour library and 4K maximum; reconfirm current plan details before buying. Repeating one video is not a playlist loop
Restream separately lets users repeat one prerecorded video up to 10 times on Marathon and Media. Its event and duration help pages describe a maximum of 40 hours for that repeated-video stream. Continuous operation still needs attention
Restream says its service does not impose a stream-duration limit, but warns that server maintenance may restart streams running continuously for more than 24 hours and recommends restarting every 24 hours. Restream also says YouTube has no stream-duration limit but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. These are separate issues: service continuity and YouTube archive availability. Do not treat the 40-hour single-video repeat limit as a dependable 24/7 channel workflow.
How to set up a Dropbox playlist in Restream
- Check the files first. Confirm each video is MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV, and check your account’s applicable size and duration limits.
- Make each Dropbox link accessible. Set it to “Anyone with link” or otherwise public. Private invited-only and password-protected links are not supported for this import.
- Import the videos. In Restream, open Video Storage, choose Dropbox, paste a link, and upload/import the file. Repeat for each video.
- Build and schedule the playlist. Add the imported videos to a playlist and schedule its start. Keep the total at or below 24 hours and the number of entries at or below 40. It will run once rather than looping.
- For a single-video repeat, use the event workflow instead. Schedule the prerecorded video and enable looping if your plan supports it. The documented loop allowance is up to 10 plays, with a maximum 40-hour stream.
- Plan the restart and archive behavior. For long-running use, account for Restream’s recommendation to restart continuous streams every 24 hours and YouTube’s under-12-hour archive behavior as described by Restream.
OneStream Live: the documented continuous alternative
OneStream Live’s help page describes 24/7 streaming to YouTube and includes Dropbox among its cloud storage options. The same page says the 24/7 feature requires Enterprise. That makes it the clearest documented match among the alternatives here for a continuous broadcast sourced from Dropbox, but the documentation does not establish every playlist-size limit, Dropbox link requirement, price, or reliability condition. What to verify before choosing a service
- Does the playlist repeat indefinitely? Distinguish a true recurring playlist from one pass through a scheduled playlist or a limited number of repeats of one file.
- How does Dropbox ingestion work? Check whether the service imports links, needs public sharing, or requires manual upload.
- What are the file and playlist limits? Confirm file size, duration, item count, total playlist length, resolution, and bitrate for the exact plan.
- What happens after an interruption? Ask whether the stream recovers automatically after an ingest or YouTube connection interruption, and whether scheduled restarts are needed.
- Does it support YouTube for this workflow? Confirm the destination, stream-key setup, and any channel eligibility requirements.
- How are archives handled? Restream says YouTube archives only streams under 12 hours; consider whether a long-running broadcast needs separate recordings or planned segments.
- What does the plan actually include? Check current price, continuous-stream eligibility, storage, quality caps, and whether the listed feature is available on your account.
Rights and YouTube live-stream rules
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you to stop, and interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the content remains. A license alone may not prevent interruption when the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
Dropbox’s copyright policy says you should share files only when you own the copyright or have permission to share them. Buying or legally acquiring a video, song, ebook, or software does not by itself grant the right to share it with third parties over the internet. Costs and storage considerations
Restream help pages surfaced these monthly prices for prerecorded events and playlist-related plans: Premier $39/month, Marathon $79/month, and Media $239/month. The figures are volatile and should be checked at checkout; plan availability and included capabilities can change. The playlist page lists Marathon’s library at 4 hours with a 1080p maximum and Media’s at 12 hours with a 4K maximum.
Restream describes its hosted storage as useful for queued videos, not as a replacement for a hard drive or other backup. Its help page says paid uploads do not expire unless deleted, while free-user uploads are stored for 30 days; storage capacity depends on plan. Keep an independent copy of original videos.
