There is no single objectively best movie for everyone tonight. Choose by viewing need: The Last House for a new survival thriller, F1 The Movie for large-scale racing spectacle, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie for family animation, You, Me & Tuscany for romantic comfort viewing, or Pearl for character-driven horror.
The five best streaming picks for tonight
| What you want | Movie | Platform | Runtime | Why choose it |

| Big-screen spectacle | F1 The Movie | Apple TV app | 2 hr 35 min | Brad Pitt leads a polished racing drama about a former driver returning to help a struggling Formula 1 team. |
| Family animation | The Super Mario Galaxy Movie | Peacock | 1 hr 38 min; PG | Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and friends head into new worlds in a short, recognizable adventure. |
| Romantic escape | You, Me & Tuscany | Peacock | 1 hr 45 min; PG-13 | An aspiring chef, an Italian villa, mistaken identity, and a developing romance make this the breeziest pick. |

1. The Last House — Netflix
Best for: viewers who want something new, tense, and easy to pitch in one sentence.
#1 Best Overall
Start with The Last House if you want a high-concept survival thriller: a family is trapped inside its own home, resources begin to dwindle, and an ominous force prevents them from leaving. Netflix classifies the 2026 film as science fiction, horror, and thriller, and lists it as PG-13. Greta Lee and Wagner Moura star.
Netflix Tudum identifies August 7, 2026 as the film’s streaming date, and Netflix’s official title listing places it in the service’s current catalog. That makes it the clearest choice here for a genuinely new release-night option.
This recommendation is based on the premise, genre, cast, and current availability—not on a claim of personal viewing or an independently verified review score.
2. F1 The Movie — Apple TV
Best for: viewers who want production scale, racing action, and a veteran-star-led underdog story.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose F1 The Movie for a two-and-a-half-hour dose of racing spectacle. Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former racing driver recruited to lead a struggling Formula 1 team and mentor a younger driver. Damson Idris and Kerry Condon also star.
Apple lists the film as a 2025 action drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 35 minutes. Its information page states that streaming availability began December 12, 2025, and the title is available through the Apple TV app. Apple’s listing also identifies Dolby Atmos and multiple audio and subtitle options, although the experience depends on the viewer’s device and setup.
Rank #2
Important access distinction: being listed in the Apple TV app does not necessarily mean F1 The Movie is included with every Apple subscription tier. Check the title page on your account to see whether your access is through a subscription, rental, or purchase.
3. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie — Peacock
Best for: families, animation fans, and anyone who wants a recognizable adventure without committing to a very long movie.

For a family movie night, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the lowest-friction pick in this guide. Peacock lists the 2026 animated film as a 1-hour-38-minute PG movie streaming exclusively on Peacock beginning July 30, 2026. The story sends Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and other familiar characters into new worlds across the galaxy.
Peacock describes it as a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie from 2023. Watching the earlier film is optional: newcomers can follow the broad setup without it, while returning viewers may get more continuity from watching in order.
The short runtime is a practical advantage for younger viewers or households trying to finish a movie before bedtime. Check which Peacock plan is available to you, since advertising and access conditions can vary by plan.
4. You, Me & Tuscany — Peacock
Best for: viewers who want romance, Italian scenery, and a light 105-minute watch rather than suspense or awards-season intensity.
Rank #3
- Factory sealed DVD
You, Me & Tuscany follows an aspiring chef who impersonates a man’s fiancée while staying at an Italian villa, then develops feelings for his cousin. Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page star in the 2026 PG-13 romantic comedy.
Peacock lists the film at 1 hour and 45 minutes and gives it an August 7, 2026 streaming start. It is the most straightforward recommendation when the assignment is scenic escapism and a breezy romantic-comedy setup rather than action, horror, or a demanding drama.
5. Pearl — Hulu
Best for: horror viewers who prefer a character-centered story and modern genre filmmaking over a purely survival-driven premise.
Try Pearl on Hulu if you want horror with a stronger character focus. A current streaming roundup reports that Ti West’s X trilogy, including Pearl, arrived on Hulu in August 2026 and identifies Pearl as the standout single choice among the newly available titles.

The Hulu placement in the supplied research comes from a current streaming-news roundup rather than a confirmed Hulu public title page. Search Hulu directly immediately before pressing play, because the title’s availability and regional access may change.
You do not need to watch the entire trilogy to use Pearl as tonight’s pick. If you become interested in the wider story, the other newly available X trilogy films provide additional context.

What is new or featured on each platform?
Netflix
The Last House is the strongest researched “new release tonight” choice on Netflix’s current slate. Its 2026 release, August 7 streaming arrival, and science-fiction/horror/thriller combination make it a particularly easy recommendation for viewers who want a fresh premise rather than a familiar rewatch.
Apple TV
Apple TV is the home for F1 The Movie in this guide. Use the Apple TV app to check the exact access method attached to your account. The title’s long runtime makes it a better choice for a planned movie night than for a quick, low-commitment watch.
Peacock
Peacock currently highlights The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, F9: The Fast Saga, and You, Me & Tuscany among its new or featured movies. This guide selects the Mario film for family animation and You, Me & Tuscany for romance; F9 is a useful extra browse if you want an established action franchise rather than one of the five mood-based recommendations.
Hulu
Hulu is the reported August 2026 home for the X trilogy, with Pearl the most natural one-film recommendation from that group. Because streaming rights can change quickly—and because the Hulu placement needs a final live-platform check—verify the title in Hulu’s own search before settling in.
How to check whether a movie is really included
- Confirm your country. This guide is for viewers in the United States. A title available in the U.S. may be absent from the catalog elsewhere.
- Open the title inside the service’s own app or website. Search results from a general streaming guide can lag behind licensing changes.
- Look for the access label. “Available through the Apple TV app” can cover different options, including a subscription, rental, or purchase. Do not assume that every Apple customer receives the same access.
- Check your plan. Peacock, Hulu, and Netflix can present different plan terms, advertising arrangements, or catalog access depending on the account.
- Check the date. The availability in this article was checked on August 12, 2026. None of these listings should be treated as a promise that the movie will remain on the same service.
For a broader catalog search, a U.S. movie guide such as JustWatch can help identify where a title is currently listed. Use it as an availability lookup, not as the editorial authority for deciding whether a movie is good or suited to your mood.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Optional: make an older TV streaming-ready
You do not need new hardware to watch any of the movies above if your television already supports the relevant apps. If it does not, a compatible 4K streaming stick can provide a simpler route to streaming services through an available HDMI port. Amazon’s documentation identifies the second-generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max as a streaming stick with Wi-Fi 6E and Ambient Experience features.
Best Value
Check your television’s HDMI and power requirements, the device’s current app support, and whether your subscriptions work on that platform before buying. The device is an optional setup improvement—not a requirement for any recommendation in this guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is F1 The Movie included with Apple TV?
No. Apple lists F1 The Movie in the Apple TV app, but the exact access method can vary by account. Check whether it is included with your plan or offered as a rental or purchase.
Do I need to watch The Super Mario Bros. Movie before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie?
No. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the earlier film is not required to understand the broad setup. Watch the 2023 movie first only if you want the continuity.
How reliable are the streaming availability listings?
Streaming rights and plan terms change. The guide was checked for U.S. availability on August 12, 2026; verify each title in the platform’s own app immediately before watching, especially Pearl on Hulu.
The Bottom Line
Tonight’s shortcut: choose The Last House for a new thriller, F1 The Movie for spectacle, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie for family viewing, You, Me & Tuscany for romance, or Pearl for character-driven horror. Confirm the title and access terms in the service’s own U.S. app before watching.
