For energetic science fiction: The Martian (2015)

Directed and produced by Geeta Gandbhir, this documentary examines the shooting of Ajike Owens in Ocala, Florida, and the tensions in the surrounding community. TheWrap reports that it uses police body-camera footage. Content note: the film addresses a fatal shooting and community conflict.
For a high-stakes political thriller: A House of Dynamite (2025)
Kathryn Bigelow’s thriller follows government officials responding to a single unattributed nuclear missile launched at the United States. TheWrap included it among its picks, and Netflix Tudum scheduled its Netflix release for October 24, 2025.

Ballad of a Small Player (October 29, 2025)
Netflix Tudum scheduled Edward Berger’s film for October 29. It follows Lord Doyle, a heavily indebted gambler in Macau, and stars Colin Farrell, Fala Chen, and Tilda Swinton. It is an additional period-matched choice for viewers interested in a character-driven gambling story.
