There is no evidence-based universal winner for a low-cost India VPS running an FFmpeg YouTube playlist stream. Start by deciding whether FFmpeg will relay a compatible, already-encoded file or encode/transcode it live, then compare the exact India region, recurring cost, transfer allowance and overage, and the server resources your workload needs. Published plan specs—including “streaming VPS” claims—do not establish that your playlist will run reliably.

Choose a VPS only if you need to run FFmpeg yourself

A VPS gives you a server to administer; it does not automatically make a YouTube stream reliable. You must install and configure FFmpeg, keep the YouTube stream key secure, and handle process restarts, logs and monitoring. If you only need an uploaded recording or playlist to loop on YouTube, a managed option may fit better than maintaining a server. StreamNeo describes that workflow, but it is a cloud playlist service rather than a VPS, and its product description is not independent service testing.

#1 for looping uploaded recordings without VPS administration: StreamNeo

For that narrower goal, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs the playlist from the cloud, at any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with the first day free. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It streams to YouTube only; it is not a way to run a custom FFmpeg command or stream live camera footage. See StreamNeo for the vendor’s current service details.

What the India VPS options establish

The two providers below have official pricing or region documentation in the available evidence. Their listed prices and specifications are useful comparison points, not proof of sustained FFmpeg performance. The specialist providers advertise streaming-oriented plans, but those claims are vendor-provided rather than independently measured.

Provider and evidence Documented plan details India region and transfer caveats
DigitalOcean Basic Droplet listed at $18/month: 2 vCPUs, 2 GiB RAM, 60 GiB SSD and 3,000 GiB transfer. Bangalore is listed as an available Droplet location. Confirm the exact plan’s availability and current checkout total. Sources: DigitalOcean pricing and Droplet availability.
Amazon Lightsail Official bundle table lists public-IPv4 Linux plans: 1 GiB at $7/month with 2 TB transfer; 2 GiB at $12/month with 3 TB; 4 GiB at $24/month with 4 TB. AWS says Mumbai plans include half the transfer allowance of most regions; check the Mumbai-specific allowance rather than assuming the headline bundle allowance applies. AWS counts both inbound and outbound traffic toward allowance and documents $0.13/GB for qualifying Mumbai outbound overage. Sources: Lightsail bundles and Lightsail transfer rules.
Inservers Vendor lists its IN-BASIC plan at ₹880/month with 2 vCores and 4 GB RAM. It says the plan suffices for a single 1080p60 relay without transcoding and recommends a higher plan for transcoding. These are vendor claims, not a measured result. Verify continuous-streaming permission, transfer metering, renewal and cancellation terms on the Inservers plan page.
NivoHost Vendor advertises stream-specific plan constraints, including a 20 TB bandwidth figure and stream-quality ceilings; a comparable recurring price is not stated here. Confirm the exact plan, quality limit, India location, bandwidth rules and renewal terms with the NivoHost plan page. Its specifications are vendor claims, not independently tested performance.

Estimate transfer before choosing a plan

YouTube’s live encoder guide recommends H.264 video bitrates of 8 Mbps for 720p30, 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. It also recommends RTMP/RTMPS, CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. These are YouTube platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a VPS can encode or sustain the stream. Use the YouTube live encoder settings guide when configuring the output.

As a rough planning calculation, video payload alone at those rates is about 86.4 GB per day at 8 Mbps, 151.2 GB per day at 14 Mbps and 183.6 GB per day at 17 Mbps, using decimal GB and a continuous stream. A 30-day month is therefore about 2,592 GB, 4,536 GB or 5,508 GB of video payload respectively. Audio and protocol overhead add to those amounts. Provider meters may count more than the stream’s outbound media, so read the provider’s definition, cap, pooling rules and overage terms.

Why a cheap bundle can become expensive

  • For a continuous stream, transfer accumulates every hour; compare the monthly estimate with the allowance for the exact India region.
  • Check whether inbound and outbound traffic both count, whether the allowance is pooled, and what happens after the cap.
  • Include recurring price after any introductory term, applicable tax, currency conversion, public IP, storage, backups and transfer overage.
  • For Lightsail in Mumbai specifically, account for AWS’s half-allowance note and the documented qualifying outbound overage rate rather than using a non-Mumbai allowance assumption.

Separate relaying from live encoding

If FFmpeg sends a compatible, already-encoded file without changing its video, the workload is different from decoding and encoding it continuously. Transcoding, filters, higher resolution, higher frame rate and multiple simultaneous jobs can demand substantially more CPU and memory. The available provider evidence does not include an independent, comparable sustained FFmpeg benchmark, so it cannot identify a server size that is guaranteed to work.

Before selecting a plan, record the source codec, resolution, frame rate, audio format, filters, intended output settings and number of concurrent jobs. For relay/copy, confirm that the source file is compatible with YouTube’s required output protocol and settings; for transcoding, test the exact command and source rather than relying on a plan label such as “streaming.”

A practical shortlist and test process

  1. Confirm the location. Check that the exact plan can be deployed in India and identify the city or region. Bangalore is documented for DigitalOcean; for Lightsail, apply the Mumbai-specific transfer terms.
  2. Calculate total cost. Add the recurring plan price, taxes and any IP, storage, backup or transfer charges. Check renewal and cancellation terms before choosing a longer commitment.
  3. Match the workload. Decide whether FFmpeg will copy/relay or transcode. Note source codec, resolution, frame rate, filters and concurrent jobs; do not assume a plan that handles one relay can handle encoding.
  4. Check operating requirements. Make sure you can install and secure FFmpeg, protect the stream key, configure restart/watchdog behavior, retain logs and monitor a long run.
  5. Run a representative test before committing long term. Use the actual playlist and intended command. Monitor CPU, memory, dropped frames, reconnects, YouTube stream health and transfer; then test recovery after an FFmpeg process restart and a server restart. This is a recommended validation procedure, not a test result for any provider listed here.

Common problems and what to check

  • Stream stops when the source process exits: inspect FFmpeg logs and configure a restart/watchdog process; verify recovery after both process and server restarts.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health or dropped frames: check whether the source or encoded output matches YouTube’s recommended bitrate, CBR and two-second keyframe interval, then inspect CPU load and network interruptions.
  • Transfer allowance runs out sooner than expected: recalculate using continuous duration and the combined video/audio rate, then check whether the provider also counts inbound traffic or applies region-specific allowances.
  • CPU remains saturated: establish whether the job is transcoding or applying filters rather than copying an existing compatible stream; test a suitable larger plan if the task genuinely needs encoding.
  • Stream key is exposed: limit who can read command files and logs that contain it, and replace the key in YouTube if it has been disclosed.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to loop uploaded recordings or a playlist rather than administer FFmpeg, StreamNeo keeps the YouTube stream running from its cloud service, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload the video or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial registration.
