For a live product demo, choose software around how you want to present: OBS Studio is a strong fit for free, configurable desktop production; StreamYard and Restream suit presenters who want a browser-based studio, guest participation, and built-in distribution features. There is no evidence here that one option produces better demos in practice. The right choice depends on your screen-sharing, scene-control, guest, recording, and multistreaming needs.

Which type of streaming software fits a product demo?

A demo is chiefly a screen-and-narration production: viewers need to see the product clearly, hear the presenter, and follow transitions between the product, slides, and camera. Decide first whether you want to assemble a desktop production or work in a hosted browser studio.

Workflow Best fit Trade-off
Desktop encoder with configurable scenes OBS Studio Free and flexible, but you configure the scenes and sources yourself.
Browser studio with guests and integrated production tools StreamYard or Restream More hosted workflow features; plan limits and capabilities vary.
Custom visuals plus browser-studio guest and distribution tools OBS feeding StreamYard or Restream Combines tools, but adds setup and another service to manage.

These are feature-based recommendations from vendor documentation, not hands-on testing or independent performance comparisons.

Best options for streaming product demos

OBS Studio: best for hands-on control without a software subscription

OBS Studio is free, open-source software for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It mixes audio and video in real time and lets you build scenes from sources such as window captures, browser windows, webcams, images, and capture cards. That makes it a practical choice if you want to arrange the product screen, presenter camera, slides, and other sources into custom scenes. See the OBS Project overview.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

OBS is not a hosted browser studio: expect to configure and rehearse your scene changes on the computer running the show. The available evidence does not establish that OBS is more reliable or easier to learn than the alternatives.

StreamYard: best for a hosted studio and screen-sharing workflow

StreamYard’s browser-studio workflow is centered on quick setup, screen sharing, camera, and branding. Its guidance for tech demos also describes pairing OBS for custom visuals with StreamYard for guests, multistreaming, and recording. That hybrid can suit a demo that needs more elaborate scene design but still benefits from a hosted guest workflow. Read StreamYard’s tech-demo guidance.

Restream: best when distribution and guest screen sharing matter

Restream explicitly lists product launches and demos among suitable live-video uses. Its browser Studio supports guest participation, while a guest can share a browser tab, window, or full screen; the host controls whether that share appears in the show. Restream also describes multistreaming from an encoder such as OBS, unified chat, webinars, and scheduling recorded video as live. Restream’s channel limits and other features depend on the plan. Its pricing page displays a free tier and paid Standard, Professional, and Business tiers with different simultaneous-channel limits; the help page says active channel count and additional features inform plan choice. Verify the current configuration and price on Restream’s pricing page and plan-selection help.

How to choose for your particular demo

Choose around the show, not the feature list

  • Mostly one product window and narration: OBS can capture and arrange a window, browser, and camera; a browser studio can be a better fit if you prefer a hosted setup.
  • A remote presenter needs to show their screen: Restream documents guest sharing of a tab, window, or full screen, with host control over whether it is shown.
  • You want custom visuals and guests: StreamYard’s tech-demo guidance describes a hybrid workflow using OBS for custom visuals and StreamYard for guests, multistreaming, and recording.
  • You need simultaneous destinations: Compare the plan’s channel allowance and your intended destinations. Limits are plan-dependent, and destination requirements also apply.
  • You need a usable recording afterward: Check whether the plan includes the recording type and storage you need. Local recordings, cloud storage, and clips are not interchangeable; confirm current limits before relying on them.

Account for setup and subscription trade-offs

OBS avoids a software subscription but asks you to configure a desktop workflow. Hosted studios trade a subscription and plan limits for integrated browser-based features. That is a practical difference between the documented product models, not a measured comparison of learning time or total cost.

Prepare the screen, sound, and connection

Make the product legible

  • Rehearse the changes between the product, slides, and presenter view so that viewers do not have to wait through setup.
  • Capture the product window or screen you intend to show, and close unrelated material before sharing.
  • Check your camera framing and lighting if you will appear on screen. Restream says a built-in camera is a reasonable starting point and recommends matching camera quality to the target resolution.

Make narration intelligible

Restream says a built-in microphone is acceptable when starting, while noting that microphone choice affects audio quality. Use headphones to reduce echo and test speech levels before going live. A USB microphone is an optional upgrade, not a prerequisite.

Check internet and streaming settings

Restream’s equipment guidance recommends at least 10 Mbps of bandwidth and 25 Mbps or more, especially for Full HD, and favors wired internet for stability. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees: actual requirements depend on the stream settings and network conditions. Encoder settings and destination requirements vary, so use the current instructions for your chosen software and streaming destination rather than assuming one bitrate or resolution fits every setup. See Restream’s equipment guidance.

Connect OBS to Restream for a hybrid workflow

If you want OBS scene control while using Restream to manage distribution, Restream documents two connection approaches: linking an account or pasting an RTMP stream key.

  1. Open Restream’s current OBS setup guide and choose the connection method it documents for your account.
  2. Connect by account linking or enter the RTMP stream key as directed. Treat a stream key as a credential: do not share it publicly, and replace it if it is exposed.
  3. Enable the destinations you intend to use in Restream and check their individual live-stream requirements.
  4. In OBS, select and rehearse the scenes and sources for the product, presenter, and slides. Confirm the preview and audio before starting the stream.
  5. Start the stream and monitor its status in Restream. If it does not appear at a destination, check the selected channel, connection, stream key, and destination-specific requirements.

Follow the current guide instead of copying settings blindly: Connect OBS to Restream.

Troubleshoot common demo problems

Symptom What to check Practical fix
The shared screen is not visible to viewers Whether the correct window, tab, or display is selected; in Restream, whether the host has chosen to show the guest’s share. Select the intended source again and verify it in the preview before presenting.
Viewers cannot hear the presenter clearly Microphone selection, input level, echo, and competing audio sources. Test speech before going live, use headphones to reduce echo, and simplify the active audio sources.
The stream is unstable Connection quality, whether you are on Wi-Fi, and whether the selected settings suit the available connection. Prefer a wired connection where possible; compare your available bandwidth with the vendor’s guidance and lower the stream demands if needed.
A destination does not receive the stream Enabled destination, channel allowance for the plan, stream-key or account connection, and the destination’s own requirements. Check the active destinations and current connection guide, then monitor the encoder and service status.
A recording or destination option is unavailable Whether that feature is included in the current plan and whether its storage or channel limit has been reached. Verify current plan details before the event; do not assume a feature shown on another tier is included.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live around the clock with uploaded recordings rather than produce a live camera demo, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed.

  • Nothing has to stay on at home; your computer can be off.
  • Each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality.
  • It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
  • The first day is free with no card required.

The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start the free day by creating a StreamNeo account.
