Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFor a Linux-hosted playlist that needs to reach YouTube Live directly, Liquidsoap is the clearest fit: its official project homepage demonstrates video clips, a playlist fallback, FFmpeg encoding and RTMP output to YouTube. If you want a browser-based media library and radio-style scheduling, AzuraCast is easier to administer, but its documented output is centered on an Icecast-KH radio frontend rather than a ready-made YouTube video destination.
These solve different parts of the job. A playlist manager decides what plays and when; an encoder sends the resulting stream to YouTube. For a cloud-managed alternative that avoids keeping a Linux host running, StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud. See StreamNeo.
Which Linux playlist manager should you choose?
| Option | Best for | Playlist and schedule workflow | YouTube path | Main tradeoff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | People who want an always-on YouTube stream without maintaining a Linux host | Upload videos or build a playlist, add a YouTube stream key, then go live; it loops uploaded videos in the cloud | Direct cloud service for YouTube | Not a Linux playlist manager; it plays uploaded video rather than a live camera feed |
| Liquidsoap | Linux operators comfortable configuring scripts who want a configurable video-to-YouTube pipeline | Scripted playlists, directories, scheduled sources, fallbacks, mixing and transitions | The project homepage demonstrates FFmpeg-encoded RTMP output to YouTube Live, including a playlist fallback | No graphical interface; scripts are written by hand |
| AzuraCast | Operators who prefer browser-based station and media administration | Web media manager, rotation, recurring playlists, scheduled time blocks and date ranges | Its documented AutoDJ and Icecast-KH frontend form a radio stack; YouTube video output calls for extra configuration | More approachable administration, but not shown as a one-click YouTube video playlist product |
The comparison is about documented workflows, not uptime or encoding speed: no independent benchmark or hands-on test establishes which system runs longer or encodes faster.
What each option actually does
Liquidsoap: direct, scriptable video-to-YouTube streaming
Liquidsoap is the more explicit match when your target is a playlist of video clips sent to YouTube Live. Its homepage describes building audio and video streams in code and demonstrates a workflow that can take a live OBS video input, fall back to playlist clips, encode with FFmpeg and send RTMP to YouTube Live. That combination is useful for a documentary channel that wants a scheduled or continuous selection of prerecorded films, while retaining a fallback source.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The tradeoff is operational: you configure the sources, encoding and destination in scripts instead of clicking through a graphical playlist manager. The homepage documents the example, but that does not establish that a particular Linux host, network connection or YouTube session will remain uninterrupted.
AzuraCast: web-based station management, radio-oriented output
AzuraCast is a self-hosted radio suite with AutoDJ built on Liquidsoap. Its web interface supports a media library and playlist scheduling, including rotation, scheduled time blocks and date ranges. For ordinary station operation, files must be assigned to at least one playlist; unassigned media will not be played automatically.

Its documented stack is centered on an Icecast-KH radio frontend. That makes AzuraCast a natural choice for a browser-administered web-radio station, but the reviewed documentation does not present YouTube Live video as a ready-to-use destination. To stream video clips to YouTube, expect to add Liquidsoap configuration or use another encoder workflow.
Build a Linux playlist stream for YouTube
The following setup sequence separates playlist logic from YouTube delivery. Exact commands and configuration syntax depend on your Linux distribution, installed Liquidsoap and FFmpeg versions, and chosen encoding pipeline; use the relevant project documentation for those details rather than copying an unverified generic command.

- Choose the playback layer. Use Liquidsoap directly if you are comfortable maintaining scripts and need the clearest documented video-to-YouTube route. Use AzuraCast if browser-based library administration and radio-style scheduling matter more, while planning separately for YouTube video output.
- Prepare and assign the media. Organize the video clips you are authorized to stream. With AzuraCast, put files in at least one playlist; files that are not assigned will not be played automatically. With Liquidsoap, define the playlist or directory source in your script.
- Define the schedule and fallback. In AzuraCast, configure rotation or scheduled time blocks and date ranges in its playlist controls. In Liquidsoap, configure the desired source order, scheduled sources and fallback behavior in code. A fallback can keep playback logic from ending when a preferred source fails, but it cannot protect against every host, network, encoder or YouTube failure.
- Configure video and audio encoding. Set up the FFmpeg encoding path appropriate to your source material and destination. The project example confirms an FFmpeg-encoded RTMP workflow, but the reviewed source does not establish a single bitrate, resolution, frame rate or keyframe interval suitable for every channel. Choose settings that match your content and YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
- Get the YouTube stream destination and key. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, configure the stream and obtain the server URL and stream key required by your encoder. Treat the key as a password: keep it private, do not put a real key in a public script or screenshot, and rotate it if exposed.
- Connect the encoder and check Live Control Room. Configure Liquidsoap or the separate encoder with YouTube’s RTMP destination and key, then start the encoder. YouTube’s workflow distinguishes scheduling an event in Studio from configuring and starting the encoder: creating a scheduled event promotes an upcoming stream, but does not send video by itself.
- Verify playback before leaving it unattended. Check that the encoder connects, the expected video and audio appear in YouTube’s preview, and a playlist transition or fallback behaves as intended. Keep an eye on the stream rather than treating a successful first connection as proof of permanent continuity.
Scheduling and reliability: what a 24/7 setup requires
Continuous playback is a chain of dependencies, not a single playlist setting. The media must be readable, the playlist or script must select a source, the encoder must produce a valid stream, the Linux host and network must remain available, and YouTube must continue receiving the session. AzuraCast and Liquidsoap provide playlist and fallback mechanisms, but neither the cited documentation nor the examples establish an uninterrupted service guarantee.
- Keep a tested fallback source for expected media or input failures, and verify that it plays rather than merely assuming the configuration works.
- Monitor the host, network and YouTube Live Control Room. A fallback cannot restart a failed host or repair a lost network connection by itself.
- Back up the media library and configuration. AzuraCast recommends keeping station media in a second location; S3-compatible remote storage is an option it documents for media storage.
- Decide whether you need a complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous stream will produce a complete archive. Keep separate recordings if a full-length archive matters.
- Review copyright and YouTube’s current live-stream requirements before scheduling films. A stream key and an encoder connection do not grant rights to broadcast a documentary, soundtrack or other material.
When to pick Liquidsoap, AzuraCast or a cloud service
- Pick Liquidsoap if direct YouTube video output and script-level control are your priorities, and you can maintain a Linux configuration.
- Pick AzuraCast if you want a web-managed radio library with recurring playlist schedules and can handle the additional work needed for YouTube video delivery.
- Pick StreamNeo if you want uploaded videos looped to YouTube without keeping a Linux computer, VPS or home connection running. It is a cloud option, not a Linux manager.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube stream made from uploaded videos, StreamNeo’s setup is: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops the videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot; automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Start your free day with StreamNeo.

Costs and maintenance to account for
Liquidsoap and AzuraCast are self-hosted approaches, so the software choice is only part of the operating cost. If you use a Linux VPS, consider the resources needed for encoding, media storage, bandwidth or transfer limits, backups, and restart and recovery arrangements. The sources do not establish a current provider price or a standard server size for this workload, so calculate those against your own video settings and expected schedule.
For larger media libraries or an off-site copy, AzuraCast documents S3-compatible remote storage and names Backblaze, DigitalOcean Spaces, Linode and S3 as examples. A separate local drive can also serve as one possible second copy location, but it is optional rather than a software requirement.

Useful checks before you schedule a documentary stream
- Confirm you have the rights needed for the full video, music and any embedded material.
- Test the stream key and RTMP connection privately before promoting a scheduled event.
- Confirm all intended AzuraCast media is assigned to a playlist, or that Liquidsoap’s script resolves the correct playlist paths.
- Test transitions and fallback behavior with the actual files and host you plan to use.
- Plan separately for YouTube’s archive behavior if you need a complete recording of a long-running broadcast.
