1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor viewers in the UK, the clearest current streaming route is ITVX Premium, where Only Fools and Horses is listed with BritBox and BBC branding and subtitles. For a permanent library, the BBC DVD set Only Fools and Horses: The Complete Collection is the strongest option found: HMV identifies it as the 23 October 2018 release containing all 64 episodes. Netflix UK currently says the title is unavailable in the country. Outside the UK, availability depends on local rights, so check the service catalogue in your own territory immediately before paying.
At a glance: which option fits your needs?
| Option | Territory evidence | Subscription or purchase | Completeness | Permanence | Subtitles and format | Price and stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ITVX Premium (BritBox/BBC listing) | Currently listed for UK viewers on ITVX; BritBox access is territory-controlled. | ITVX marks the programme “Premium”, so access is tied to its Premium tier. Confirm the current plan terms. | The current page visibly lists series 1 episodes and the 1981 Christmas special “Christmas Crackers”; the page viewed does not by itself establish that every episode is available. | Catalogue access can change with rights agreements. | Subtitles are offered on the ITVX listing; playback is streamed through the service. | No current price was established; verify the live ITVX offer. |
| Netflix UK | The UK title page currently displays “Oh no! This title isn’t currently available to watch in your country.” | No UK viewing access while that notice remains. | Not applicable in the UK. | Could change if rights are acquired, but no current UK access is established. | Not applicable in the UK listing. | Not applicable; recheck the title page if your region changes. |
| BBC iPlayer | BBC Studios says iPlayer is for people in the UK and that programmes can be streamed or downloaded only while inside the UK. A current Only Fools and Horses listing was not established here. | Use is governed by iPlayer eligibility and current programme rights. | Do not assume the complete run is present without a live listing. | iPlayer catalogues are rights-managed and temporary. | Features depend on the individual programme page. | No programme price; iPlayer availability must be checked live. |
| Only Fools and Horses: The Complete Collection DVD | HMV lists the BBC box set in the UK and provides UK Click & Collect and international-delivery information. | One-time disc purchase. | HMV describes the set as containing all 64 episodes. | Physical ownership avoids streaming catalogue rotation, subject to disc condition and player compatibility. | DVD video; HMV’s listing should be checked for subtitle details and regional compatibility before purchase. | Price and stock are not stated here and can change; confirm them on the retailer page. |
The practical choice is therefore straightforward: use ITVX Premium if you are in the UK and want immediate streaming, or buy the BBC complete DVD collection if having the entire 64-episode run on a shelf matters more than convenience. No universal cheapest option can be stated because subscription prices, retailer stock and territory rights change.
How to watch on ITVX in the UK
What the current listing confirms
ITVX currently labels Only Fools and Horses as a Premium programme and displays both BritBox and BBC branding. The page identifies David Jason and Nicholas Lyndhurst and offers subtitles. The visible episode list includes series 1 entries such as “Big Brother,” “Go West Young Man,” “Cash and Curry,” “The Second Time Around,” “A Slow Bus to Chingford” and “The Russians Are Coming,” followed by the 1981 Christmas special “Christmas Crackers.”
That listing is the strongest current UK streaming lead, but it is not evidence that every series and special is permanently available. Streaming pages can expose only part of a catalogue, and rights can change after publication.

Access steps
- Open ITVX from inside the UK and search for Only Fools and Horses using the exact title.
- Confirm that the result is the programme page carrying the BritBox and BBC identifiers, rather than an unrelated clip or trailer.
- Check that the page still shows the episodes you want and that the subtitle control is available on your device.
- Review the current Premium requirement, price, billing interval and any trial conditions before starting a subscription.
- Start playback and test subtitles on the first episode. Device apps can expose different controls from the web player, so verify the setting before settling in for a long session.
What “Premium” means for your decision
“Premium” is an access label, not a promise that the programme is included with every free ITVX account. Treat it as a sign that the current viewing entitlement is linked to the paid tier or another qualifying arrangement. Because the live price and terms are not fixed in this guide, use the checkout screen as the authority for what you will be charged.
Strengths and limitations
- Strength: immediate streaming in the UK, with subtitles shown on the programme page.
- Strength: the BritBox and BBC branding makes the listing easier to distinguish from unofficial uploads.
- Limitation: the current page evidence establishes a visible series 1 selection, not guaranteed access to all 64 episodes.
- Limitation: a paid catalogue is not permanent ownership; episodes may disappear or move when rights are renegotiated.
Is Only Fools and Horses on BritBox?
The ITVX page presents the programme with BritBox and BBC branding, making the ITVX/BritBox route the clearest UK lead. However, a BritBox episode URL viewed from an unsupported location returned the notice, “Unfortunately, BritBox is not currently available where you are.” That message demonstrates territory control; it does not prove that the show is absent from BritBox in every country.
If you already subscribe to BritBox, search within the service while signed in from your normal country and check the episode list. Do not infer availability from a search result, an old article or a page cached in another region. The service may carry different programmes, seasons or specials in different territories.
Is it on Netflix?
Netflix’s UK title page currently displays: “Oh no! This title isn’t currently available to watch in your country.” Netflix UK should therefore not be presented as a current legal viewing option. The page identifies the programme as a comedy created by John Sullivan and starring David Jason, Nicholas Lyndhurst and Lennard Pearce, but that metadata does not indicate streaming rights.

Netflix catalogues are country-specific. A title being unavailable in the UK does not establish its status elsewhere, and a foreign listing does not give a UK subscriber viewing rights. Check Netflix while located in the country where you intend to watch, and confirm that the episodes actually load before subscribing for this programme.
What about BBC iPlayer?
BBC Studios’ FAQ states: “BBC iPlayer is a service for people in the UK. Due to rights agreements, you can only download or stream BBC iPlayer television programmes while you are inside the UK.” This is a geographic rule, not a guarantee that every BBC comedy is currently in the iPlayer catalogue.
The same FAQ says the BBC does not sell DVDs, Blu-ray discs, toys, games or other BBC-related products directly in the UK. It directs buyers to online and local retailers, explaining that BBC Studios licenses and publishes a selection of discs and that not all programmes are commercially available. For Only Fools and Horses, the commercially listed DVD collection is therefore a retailer purchase rather than a direct BBC transaction.
The best complete physical option: the BBC DVD collection
Exact product identity
HMV lists Only Fools and Horses: The Complete Collection as a BBC DVD box set released on 23 October 2018. The listing gives barcode 5051561042584 and describes the contents as all 64 episodes. BBC Studios separately records 64 episodes broadcast from 1981 to 2003, so this is the most clearly documented complete-run product identified for the series.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

Use the exact product name when searching retailers. Box-set artwork, marketplace listings and bundle descriptions can vary, while the title, BBC branding, release date and barcode help you distinguish the intended collection from individual-season discs or unofficial compilations.
Why discs remain useful
- Completeness: the HMV description explicitly covers all 64 episodes rather than a selected season.
- Stability: once purchased, the discs are not removed from a streaming catalogue because a licensing window ended.
- Offline viewing: playback does not depend on an internet connection after you have the discs and a compatible player.
- Collecting: a single box provides a physical archive of a programme that ran from 1981 through 2003.
Checks before you buy
- Confirm that the listing says The Complete Collection and states all 64 episodes.
- Match the barcode, 5051561042584, when the retailer provides one.
- Check whether the item is new, used, sealed or described as having damaged packaging.
- Verify the disc region or regional compatibility for the player you will use. The listing evidence does not establish a universal region designation.
- Look for the retailer’s current price, shipping charge, return policy and stock status. HMV provides UK Click & Collect and international-delivery information, but availability can change.
- If subtitles are important, read the current technical specification rather than assuming every DVD release has the same subtitle options as the ITVX stream.
DVD trade-offs
A box set requires storage, a DVD player or compatible computer drive, and physical handling. It may also be less convenient than a search-and-play app on a phone or smart television. Its advantage is that the documented episode count is clear and the collection is not dependent on a future streaming renewal.
Streaming versus the complete DVD: a decision guide
Choose ITVX Premium when:
- You are physically in the UK.
- You want to start watching immediately without waiting for delivery.
- Subtitles on the current ITVX listing meet your needs.
- You accept that the visible catalogue and subscription terms may change.
Choose the DVD collection when:
- You want the documented 64-episode run in one purchase.
- You value continued access after a streaming licence expires.
- You have a compatible DVD player and room to store the set.
- You are willing to check regional compatibility, condition and delivery details.
Use both when:
Streaming is the convenient way to sample episodes or watch while travelling within your permitted territory, while discs provide a dependable home archive. Keep the two roles separate: a stream is temporary catalogue access, whereas the DVD is a physical purchase whose usability depends on the discs and your equipment.
Why availability changes by country
Television rights are licensed by territory and by distribution method. A broadcaster, subscription service and disc publisher can each hold different permissions. That is why ITVX can show the programme in the UK while Netflix UK displays an unavailability message, and why BritBox can return a location notice without the programme being absent worldwide.

Country differences can affect more than the title itself. One territory may list a complete run, another only selected seasons, and another may have no legal stream but still permit a retailer to ship a DVD. Subtitle tracks, edits and music clearances can also vary by release. The available evidence does not establish that every streaming or disc edition is uncut or contains identical music.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to check legally from outside the UK
- Identify the country where you will actually watch, not the country shown in an old search result.
- Search the local catalogue of major licensed services for the exact title.
- Open the programme page and inspect the season and episode list; do not rely on a thumbnail alone.
- Check whether the service requires a local subscription, a specific premium tier or an additional channel entitlement.
- Confirm subtitle availability and supported playback devices.
- If no legal stream is listed, search reputable retailers for the BBC DVD collection and verify delivery, regional compatibility and return terms.
A virtual location or an account created in another country does not change the underlying licence. Use a service authorised for your location and follow its terms rather than assuming a workaround makes viewing lawful.
Episode count, dates and the meaning of “complete”
BBC Studios records 64 episodes from 1981 to 2003. The HMV product description uses the same total for the complete DVD collection. That number is the most reliable benchmark when comparing box sets. A listing that says “best of,” names only individual series, or omits an episode count should not be treated as equivalent.
The ITVX page currently exposes series 1 material and the 1981 Christmas special “Christmas Crackers.” Because that is a page-level snapshot rather than a published guarantee of the entire run, count the seasons and specials shown in your account before assuming the stream matches the DVD set.

The programme’s historical reach is substantial: BBC Studios reports a peak audience of 24.3 million viewers. That figure explains the continuing demand for a permanent collection, but it does not indicate present-day streaming rights or current audience size.
Subtitles, playback and accessibility checks
ITVX explicitly offers subtitles on its current programme page. Turn them on before playback and confirm that the text remains enabled when you move between episodes. Subtitle controls and language choices can differ between a browser, smart-TV app and mobile app.
For the DVD, consult the retailer’s technical specification or the packaging for subtitle information. Do not assume that a physical release duplicates the streaming version’s accessibility features. Also check the player’s compatibility with the disc format and regional requirements before ordering from another country.
Prices, stock and publication dates
No stable price can be quoted for either route. ITVX Premium pricing, promotional offers and billing conditions can change. HMV’s stock and price can also change, particularly for a 2018 release. Treat every figure shown at checkout as time-sensitive and record the publication date when comparing offers.
The current availability statements in this guide were checked on 17 October 2026 (UTC). Recheck ITVX, BritBox, Netflix and the retailer immediately before subscribing or ordering, because rights and inventory can change without notice.
Bottom line
For a UK viewer who wants to watch now, check the ITVX Premium listing first; it is the clearest current stream and advertises subtitles. For ownership of the entire documented run, buy the BBC Only Fools and Horses: The Complete Collection DVD listed by HMV, confirming stock, condition, subtitles and regional compatibility. Netflix UK is not currently an option, and viewers elsewhere must verify their own territory rather than extrapolating from UK listings.
