The script below is a starting point, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming: you still need to prepare compatible media, configure YouTube’s ingest settings, keep the host and network running, protect your stream key, and monitor for failures. YouTube’s encoder guidance applies generally; the sources do not establish a separate FFmpeg recipe or bandwidth threshold for India.
FFmpeg playlist script for a continuous YouTube stream
The concat demuxer reads a text file of media paths and processes the listed files in order. It does not normalize different videos into a uniform playlist. FFmpeg’s documentation requires the inputs to have matching streams, including codecs and time bases; inaccurate durations or streams of different lengths can cause timestamp problems, gaps, or artifacts. 1. Create the playlist
Save a text file named playlist.txt beside your media files. Use one file entry per video, in the order you want them to play:

file 'documentary-part-3.mp4'Paths are relative to the directory where FFmpeg reads the playlist, unless you provide absolute paths. Filenames with spaces can be enclosed in quotes as shown. If a path contains a quote, backslash, or other special character, escape it according to FFmpeg’s concat-demuxer rules; do not assume ordinary shell quoting also escapes text inside the playlist file.

2. Set the YouTube ingest address and stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you intend to use.
- Copy the server or ingest URL and stream key shown for that stream. Use the URL supplied by YouTube rather than relying on a hard-coded endpoint from an unrelated guide.
- Keep the key private. Do not put a real key in a script committed to a repository, a screenshot, a public log, or a command history that other users can read.
3. Run FFmpeg with a looping input
With FFmpeg installed and the playlist prepared, substitute your YouTube server URL and key for the placeholders below. The example re-encodes the files to H.264 video and AAC audio, requests 1080p at 30 frames per second, and loops the playlist input:

Check the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and the ingest details in your Live Control Room before broadcasting. In particular, verify that the server URL and key are combined in the form expected by the ingest information YouTube provides.

4. Match the encoder settings to your source
The example’s 5 Mbps video target corresponds to YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30. YouTube’s recommendation for H.264 720p30 is 3 Mbps; its table gives other targets for different resolutions and frame rates. The example uses a 60-frame GOP at 30 fps to request a two-second keyframe interval, and CBR-style rate controls. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and allows up to four seconds. YouTube supports RTMP or RTMPS ingest, and recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport; it lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and AAC or MP3 audio. Use the current YouTube table rather than treating this one example as suitable for every source.
- Resolution and frame rate: The command asks for 30 fps but does not resize every input to a fixed frame size. If files differ in dimensions or frame rates, prepare a consistent set or add and verify an appropriate filter chain before relying on the stream.
- Audio: The example expects compatible audio streams. If some files lack audio or have incompatible audio layouts or sample rates, normalize them first or build a command that handles those cases.
- Re-encoding: Encoding can make unlike sources more consistent, but it uses CPU resources and may reduce quality. A slow host may not encode in real time. Test the complete playlist on the machine and connection you plan to use.
- Upload headroom: The connection must sustain the video and audio output rate, with room for network variation. No universal minimum upload speed for every setup, or India-specific threshold, is established here; test from the actual location and connection.
Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Start with a private or unlisted test in YouTube Live Control Room, and check that YouTube receives the stream and reports no ingest issue.
- Let the playlist cross a file boundary. Confirm both picture and sound continue, then check that it returns to the beginning and loops as intended.
- Watch for encoder overload, dropped frames, gaps, or errors in FFmpeg’s output. Confirm that the host has enough sustained network capacity and remains powered and connected.
- Check the current account and live-streaming requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance before making the stream public.
Use only content you have the rights to broadcast. A technically successful loop does not establish that a documentary, music track, narration, or other included material is cleared for continuous live rebroadcast. YouTube’s platform policies and account requirements still apply.

Hand-written FFmpeg script
This is the lightest option for a fixed, ordered sequence if you are comfortable with shell commands. You control the playlist and command directly, but you must also handle media compatibility, playlist changes, logging, restarts, and monitoring. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer is a way to feed files in sequence, not a scheduler or a full operations system.
ffplayout
ffplayout is a free/open-source project to evaluate if you need editable playlists, filler clips, RTMP output, or service-oriented operation. Its repository describes infinite playlist looping and Linux system-service operation. The project currently states a requirement for FFmpeg v7.0+ development libraries and recommends four dedicated threads and 3 GB of RAM for 720p. Those are project-stated requirements and recommendations, not independent performance measurements; check the repository for current compatibility and installation details before choosing it.

Local computer or remote Linux host
A local computer avoids a hosting bill but must stay on, powered, connected, and capable of encoding or relaying the stream. A Linux VPS can provide a remote always-on host, but adds recurring infrastructure cost and depends on that provider’s network and location. Check current availability, sustained upload suitability, and pricing for your intended region rather than assuming a particular India location or cost will work. One public Ubuntu VPS deployment example documents systemd restarts and monitoring; it is one operator’s setup, not evidence of guaranteed uptime or a universal best practice.

Does India require different FFmpeg settings?
No separate India-specific FFmpeg setting is established by the sources cited here. The encoder settings come from YouTube’s general guidance; what can vary locally is the reliability of your power, host, and sustained upload connection. Verify those conditions where the stream will actually run, and check YouTube’s current live requirements before going live.
