For a single pre-recorded feed that must keep a YouTube channel live, first decide whether you need a managed looping service or a server you operate yourself. StreamNeo is the simplest fit for looping uploaded videos from the cloud. OVHcloud VPS gives you a general-purpose server to configure and maintain. Google Cloud Live Stream API and AWS Media Services address managed encoding and video-pipeline needs; they are broader systems, not automatic upgrades for a basic YouTube ingest stream.
These options do different jobs. A VPS can host an encoder that pushes a feed to YouTube. AWS’s documented workflow encodes, prepares and distributes video to viewers; Google Cloud’s Live Stream API creates managed HLS outputs. Neither a provider’s uptime claim nor a managed pipeline specification, by itself, guarantees that your YouTube broadcast will stay live.
Which option should you choose?
| Rank and service | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| 1. StreamNeo | Keeping uploaded videos or playlists live on YouTube without leaving a computer running. | It runs the loop in the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. |
| 2. OVHcloud VPS | Operators who want control of a server and are prepared to install, secure, monitor and recover their own encoder. | The provider publishes VPS specifications, traffic terms and an SLA; these do not establish application-level broadcast continuity. |
| 3. Google Cloud Live Stream API | Teams that need a managed HLS pipeline and can build session restart and recovery handling. | Google documents a 24-hour channel session duration and input/output limits; this is a pipeline service, not a direct VPS equivalent. |
| 4. AWS Media Services and CloudFront | Broadcast workflows that need managed encoding, content preparation and delivery to viewers. | The documented MediaLive, MediaPackage or MediaStore, and CloudFront architecture is broader than hosting an encoder solely to send one feed into YouTube. |
This is a fit-based order, not a benchmark. There is no common test or equivalent bill for the same stream profile across these services, so there is no evidence here for a universal cheapest, fastest or most reliable winner.
What “24/7 YouTube streaming” requires
Meet YouTube’s channel and stream requirements
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have live-stream restrictions during the previous 90 days to enable live streaming. YouTube Help also documents limits of 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key, applied concurrently. Confirm current eligibility and platform rules for your channel before planning parallel feeds. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming, but the channel remains subject to YouTube’s policies.

Choose an ingest protocol and test the actual programme
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion. Its encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Select a bitrate that fits the resolution and frame rate you intend to send; the service choice alone does not determine a correct bitrate. Test with representative movement and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages during the broadcast.
HLS is another YouTube ingest option documented for HDR or codecs that RTMP does not support. It has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments. YouTube’s documented HLS requirements include 1–4 second segments, TS format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. Use HLS only where the source format or workflow calls for it.
How the four choices compare
1. StreamNeo: cloud looping for uploaded video
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded recordings or playlists. You upload the video, add your YouTube stream key once and go live; the service loops the content in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to remain on. It is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and it streams to YouTube only. See StreamNeo.

2. OVHcloud VPS: a self-managed encoder host
OVHcloud’s worldwide VPS page labels its listed range “2027.” It lists VPS-1 from $4.54/month with 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, 500 Mbps public bandwidth and daily backup. The listed configurations continue through VPS-2 (4 vCores, 8 GB RAM, 75 GB NVMe, 1 Gbps), VPS-3 (6 vCores, 12 GB RAM, 2 Gbps) and VPS-4 (8 vCores, 24 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 3 Gbps). The page advertises a 99.9% SLA, daily backup and unlimited traffic. These are provider-published specifications and claims, not a benchmark or a guarantee that an encoder process or YouTube stream stays live.

OVHcloud’s worldwide page excludes Asia-Pacific from its unlimited-traffic claim. Availability, terms, taxes and prices can vary by country and data-center location; check the offer and traffic terms for the region you will actually use. Do not infer that a listed vCore count can encode a particular resolution: the source video, codec, frame rate, encoder settings and workload all matter.
A VPS is a practical choice if you need operating-system and encoder control, can administer Linux or another offered OS, and have a recovery plan. You take responsibility for process supervision, reconnect behavior, monitoring, security updates, storage and incident response. Daily backup may help restore server data, but it is not a backup live feed or automatic encoder restart.

3. Google Cloud Live Stream API: managed HLS pipeline
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is for a managed video pipeline that creates HLS outputs. Its quota documentation specifies maximum input tiers up to 6 Mbps below 720p, 25 Mbps up to 1080p and 50 Mbps up to 2160p; output tiers have their own limits. These are service limits, not a comparison of encoding capacity with an OVHcloud VPS. Check the current input and output quotas for the workflow and region you intend to deploy.

Google documents that a channel session lasts 24 hours after starting; after 24 hours in a streaming state, a channel may be restarted. A continuous deployment therefore needs planned restart logic, monitoring and a recovery path. The API’s managed components do not remove the need to plan for session boundaries or YouTube ingest status.
4. AWS Media Services and CloudFront: managed broadcast delivery
AWS’s documented live-channel workflow uses MediaLive for encoding, MediaPackage or MediaStore as an origin or preparation layer, and CloudFront for viewer delivery. AWS describes support for 24×7 live channels and presents a highly available architecture for global distribution. That architecture addresses delivery of video to viewers; it is more than a host for an encoder pushing a single YouTube feed.
If your only output is YouTube ingest, deploying this larger stack may add components and operational cost without solving a need you have. If you need a broader managed broadcast and viewer-delivery workflow, evaluate the exact architecture, redundancy, regions and contractual terms. Do not treat a general description of the architecture as an availability commitment for your deployment.

Compare operational fit, not headline bandwidth
| Decision factor | VPS such as OVHcloud | Managed video pipeline such as Google Cloud or AWS |
|---|---|---|
| Service scope | General-purpose compute; you install and run the encoder that sends to YouTube. | Managed pipeline components for encoding, packaging or HLS output; AWS’s documented path can also distribute to viewers. |
| Restart and recovery | You design process supervision, reconnects, health checks and recovery after host or network problems. | Some pipeline work is managed, but restart handling remains necessary; Google documents a 24-hour session boundary. |
| Network | Check data-center location, public bandwidth, traffic allowance and any regional exceptions; distance to YouTube ingest can matter. | Check region, service quotas, ingest/output design and the relevant data-transfer charges. |
| Encoding workload | Capacity depends on the real encoder, codec, resolution, frame rate and whether you are encoding or simply forwarding prepared video. | Service-specific input/output limits and configuration apply; managed does not mean unlimited. |
| Cost model | Published VPS monthly price plus any applicable taxes, storage or other charges; the price does not represent a tested stream bill. | Metered components can include compute or encoding, packaging and delivery. No comparable total for the same stream profile is established here. |
| Operations | You maintain the host, software, security, monitoring and on-call response. | The provider operates its managed components, while you still configure the workflow, monitor it and plan for failures. |
For a fair estimate, define resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, stream duration, region, viewer-delivery needs, restart target and redundancy first. Include outbound transfer and redundant components where relevant. The published OVHcloud starting price and bandwidth figures cannot be compared directly with an AWS or Google Cloud total without those assumptions.
DIY: run a pre-recorded stream from a VPS
This is the self-managed route for an operator who wants an encoder host. Exact installation commands depend on your operating system and encoder, so use the vendor’s current installation instructions for the chosen software rather than copying a one-size-fits-all command.
- Confirm YouTube eligibility. Verify the channel, check for live-stream restrictions, and decide whether you need one output or parallel streams. Account for YouTube’s concurrent limits of 10 active streams per channel and three per stream key.
- Choose a VPS region and size for the workload. Check the provider’s current regional traffic terms and public bandwidth. Decide whether the host must encode the source or can send already-prepared content; do not choose a plan based on vCores alone.
- Prepare the source and storage. Upload the recording to the server or mount storage the encoder can read. Confirm the file’s duration, audio, codec and intended repeat behavior. Make sure available storage and network transfer suit the planned loop.
- Create a YouTube encoder stream. In YouTube’s live controls, create or select the stream and copy its ingest details and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password; do not put it in a public script, log or support post. Use RTMPS when supported and recommended for your encoder.
- Configure and test the encoder. Match resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate to the source and your available upload capacity. Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval, staying at or below YouTube’s four-second maximum recommendation. Test with representative motion and audio before scheduling an unattended run.
- Make looping and reconnect behavior explicit. Configure the encoder to repeat the source and reconnect after a dropped connection. Use a process supervisor or equivalent service manager so the encoder can restart after a crash or reboot. Confirm that a restart resumes the intended file and does not expose the stream key.
- Monitor the actual broadcast. Check encoder logs, host CPU and memory, network activity, disk space, and YouTube stream health. Set alerts for process exit, prolonged loss of connectivity or a failed ingest. A healthy VPS does not prove that YouTube is receiving valid audio and video.
- Secure and maintain the host. Apply security updates, limit administrative access, keep credentials out of source control and test recovery after a reboot. Keep a copy of the source outside the VPS if replacing the server would otherwise interrupt the stream.
Troubleshoot a stream that will not stay live
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not enable live streaming. | The channel is unverified or has a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. | Check channel eligibility and restrictions before changing the VPS or encoder. |
| The encoder cannot connect or YouTube shows no signal. | Wrong ingest details or stream key, a stopped process, network failure, or protocol mismatch. | Recheck the selected stream’s ingest settings and key, encoder status and outbound connectivity. Use RTMPS if supported. |
| The stream connects but video or audio is unstable. | Bitrate or encoding settings do not suit the source or available network; the test did not reflect real programme motion or sound. | Use constant bitrate, check the keyframe interval against YouTube’s recommendation, and repeat a representative test while watching stream health messages. |
| The VPS looks healthy but the broadcast is offline. | The encoder process or YouTube ingest may have failed independently of the host. | Monitor the encoder and YouTube stream health separately. Configure process restart and reconnect behavior, then test recovery rather than relying on an infrastructure SLA. |
| A managed Google pipeline stops after a long run. | The channel may have reached its documented 24-hour session boundary. | Implement and test planned session restart and recovery logic; monitor the new session’s output and YouTube ingest. |
| A parallel stream cannot be started. | A YouTube concurrent active-stream limit may have been reached. | Check active streams per channel and per stream key before adding another output. |
| A file plays but may not be suitable for a public loop. | Copyright, licensing or YouTube policy issues can affect the content regardless of hosting provider. | Confirm rights to the video and audio and review YouTube policies before broadcasting. A VPS or cloud service does not grant content rights. |
