Bella, a Belgian Malinois–Mastiff mix known online as @bella_maligator, appears to make her opinion of plain celery unmistakably clear: she chews it, walks to an automatic trash can, triggers the lid with her head, and spits the vegetable inside.
The caption supplies the punchline: “Mom forgot the peanut butter!” The result is less a simple food-rejection video than a tiny piece of canine household theater—Bella seems to reject the snack and clean up after herself at the same time.
Bella’s celery review ends with a trip to the bin
In the original clip, Bella’s owner asks whether she likes celery and offers her a small piece. Bella accepts it and chews for several seconds. Instead of dropping the celery on the floor, she approaches a motion-sensor trash can.
When Bella moves her head near the lid, the automatic mechanism opens. She then spits the celery into the bin. That deliberate-looking sequence is what made the video so funny: Bella does not simply abandon food. She appears to deliver a formal verdict and dispose of the evidence.

The joke is also easy for viewers to interpret in human terms. Bella seems to be saying that celery would have been acceptable if it had arrived with peanut butter—and that, in the absence of peanut butter, the responsible thing is to put it in the trash.
What the caption says about the peanut butter
Bella’s caption reads, “Mom forgot the peanut butter!” That line turns an ordinary dislike of celery into a mock restaurant complaint. The follow-up reportedly arrived two days later: Bella was offered celery with peanut butter and ate it.
A separate report reproduces the follow-up caption as, “Thank you friends for helping me get my peanut butter,” along with the hashtag #bellalikespeanutbutter. In other words, the sequel appears to reverse the original review: plain celery goes in the trash, while celery with the preferred topping gets a more favorable reception.

How viral was the video?
The numbers vary because the reports were published at different times and appear to reflect different snapshots of the account or reposting activity. Daily Paws reported more than 5.5 million views and over 900,000 likes in its February 3, 2023 coverage. Later reports described the clip as having passed 9 million views. A June 2024 report said the account had more than 335,600 followers and 12.2 million likes at that time.
Those figures should not be treated as current TikTok totals. TikTok’s live page was not independently accessible for verification, and platform counts can change continuously. The reliable takeaway is that Bella’s celery-and-trash-can routine became a widely circulated animal-video moment, not that any one published figure represents the account’s present statistics.
Does Bella regularly throw things away?
Coverage of the account says other videos show Bella taking various items to the garbage and suggests that she may have been trained from a young age. That is an attributed description, not a verified account of her complete training history.
The celery clip alone does not establish that Bella understands waste management, that she intentionally planned the entire performance, or that she was specifically trained to use this exact bin. It shows a repeatable-looking behavior that viewers can read as purposeful—and the automatic lid makes the action especially clear on camera.

Is celery safe for dogs?
Celery is generally considered safe for dogs as an occasional treat, but “safe” does not mean every dog will like it, and it is not nutritionally necessary for a dog already eating a complete and balanced diet.
- Cut it into small, bite-size pieces. Long or large pieces can create a choking risk, particularly for small dogs.
- Wash it first and remove tough strings. Preparation can make the vegetable easier to chew and digest.
- Introduce new foods cautiously. A dog can react poorly to an ingredient even when that food is generally regarded as dog-safe.
- Keep treats limited. Snacks should not displace a nutritionally complete diet.
- Ask a veterinarian first if the dog has a medical condition, food sensitivity, or prescription diet.
Celery’s general safety also does not prove that Bella should be fed it, or that her refusal indicates a health problem. In this case, the clip presents a preference joke—not a nutritional judgment.
A peanut-butter warning for dog owners
Peanut butter is not automatically safe for dogs simply because it is a familiar human food. Any product offered to a dog should be checked carefully for xylitol, a sweetener that can be dangerous to dogs. A dog-oriented choice should be xylitol-free and, preferably, low in salt and free from unsuitable additives. Ingredients such as onion and garlic are also toxic to dogs.
Owners should read the label every time rather than assume that one brand or recipe is safe across all products. Bella’s follow-up may make peanut butter look like the solution to a celery problem, but the ingredient list matters more than the joke.

Why this clip works so well
Three details give the video its unusually strong punchline:
- The reaction is delayed. Bella chews the celery long enough to make viewers wonder whether she will swallow it.
- The rejection looks deliberate. She walks to a particular destination rather than simply letting the food fall.
- The bin responds to her. The sensor lid opens as she approaches, making the trash-can interaction look like a practiced routine.
Add the peanut-butter caption and viewers get a complete, easily understood story in a few seconds: Bella is not opposed to celery in principle; she objects to celery without the topping she wanted.

Can dogs eat celery?
Celery is generally considered safe as an occasional treat when washed and cut into small pieces, but it can pose a choking risk and is not necessary in a complete diet. Dogs with health conditions or prescription diets should be cleared by a veterinarian before receiving extra treats.
What should dog owners check before giving peanut butter?
Check the ingredient label for xylitol and avoid products containing it. A dog-suitable option should also preferably be low in salt and free from other unsuitable ingredients.
The Bottom Line
Bella’s viral routine is funny because it looks like a complete customer complaint: plain celery is chewed, rejected, and placed in the automatic bin, while the peanut-butter version reportedly earns approval. The clip should not be treated as proof of extraordinary reasoning or as a feeding recommendation. For dogs, small prepared pieces of celery are generally acceptable, but safe ingredients still need to be served appropriately—and peanut butter labels must be checked for xylitol.
