The opening weekend was the high point, but the film remained No. 1 domestically for its second and third weekends. The AP’s September 22 report rounded the third-weekend domestic sales to $26 million and said the domestic total had passed $226 million. The Numbers’ more precise cumulative figure for that period is $226,785,526. Those domestic figures should not be confused with the $329.8 million worldwide snapshot.
Why “tripling its budget” does not mean it made three times its budget in profit
A production budget is not a complete accounting of a film’s costs, and a worldwide box-office gross is not the amount paid to the studio. Marketing and distribution expenses, exhibitors’ shares of ticket revenue, and other financial terms are not captured by this comparison. The available figures therefore establish that gross receipts were about 3.3 times the listed production budget; they do not establish the film’s profitability.

What is the later lifetime total?
The milestone reported in September 2024 is historical, not the film’s final box-office figure. The Numbers’ listing, accessed October 8, 2026, gives a lifetime worldwide gross of $451,980,048: $294,100,435 domestic and $157,879,613 international. Keep that later total separate from the $329.8 million reported after three weeks.

The film’s strong run made it a major part of the month’s theatrical business. In the AP’s September 22, 2024 report, Comscore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said: “September has been a bit of a sleepy month and with around 47% of the revenue being generated by this single film,” The 47% figure refers to that September 2024 context, not to the wider box office across other periods.
