South African TikTok creator Beandri Booysen died on December 18, 2024, at age 19, according to contemporary reporting. Her family said she lived with Progeria, formally known as Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). No official medical cause of her death is established in the available reports.

What is Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome?
Progeria is the common name used for Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS). The Progeria Research Foundation describes HGPS as involving a mutation in the LMNA gene that produces progerin, and its 2024 factsheet characterizes Progeria as a rare, fatal genetic condition associated with accelerated aging. “Aging disease” is a shorthand, not a complete medical explanation of the condition.

What is known about her death?
Rekord reported that Booysen died on December 18, 2024. The Citizen reported the following day that she had died at 19 and reproduced her family’s announcement.
The available reports do not establish an official medical cause of death. The Citizen relayed that her mother had described an infection around her heart and lungs during a TikTok live; Rekord reported that her mother had earlier said Booysen’s heart had stopped. These are family-reported details carried by news outlets, not an official medical finding. The reports therefore do not establish that Progeria, an infection, or a specific cardiac event was the confirmed cause.

The Progeria Research Foundation’s Quick Facts as of December 31, 2024 reports an average age at death of 14.5 years for children with Progeria. This is a dated group statistic from the foundation, not an estimate of Booysen’s individual lifespan and not evidence of her cause of death.
On its “Meet the Kids” page, the foundation reports that, as of March 2026, it counts 157 children and young adults with HGPS and 84 people with progeroid laminopathy in 52 countries. The foundation presents these as separate categories; the HGPS figure should not be combined with the laminopathy count.
