What happened to Bato.to?
Bato.to should be described in the past tense. It was a large user-submitted piracy network carrying Japanese, Korean, and Chinese comics in more than 50 languages. According to CODA, the network included approximately 60 related domains, including BATO.TO, xbato.com, bato.to, and mangapark.io.
After a search in China on November 19, 2025, the operator was detained and questioned. CODA subsequently confirmed that all 60 identified sites had closed by January 19, 2026. Former community moderators also said that the associated services and community infrastructure had ended.

That means Bato.to was not merely down for maintenance. A site that now uses Bato, Batoto, Bato.to, MangaPark, or a similar name should be treated as a separate, unverified service—not assumed to be an official continuation of the original network.

Comikey still cannot reproduce Bato.to’s former breadth. Licensing is title-specific and territory-specific, so a series that was easy to find on Bato.to may be absent, incomplete, or available under different access rules.
3. MANGA Plus: official same-time Japanese releases
Official same-time manga releases on MANGA Plus are the best fit when your priority is current Japanese serialization and direct support for creators. MANGA Plus is Shueisha’s official international service, and its FAQ explains that proceeds support artists. Many major titles are published at or near their Japanese release schedule.
MANGA Plus is not a general replacement for a multilingual database. It is primarily a Shueisha service, so it will not cover every publisher, manhwa, manhua, or obscure translated work that appeared on Bato.to.
The service’s MANGA Plus MAX offering lists U.S. pricing of $1.99 per month for the Standard plan, covering currently serializing titles, and $4.99 per month for the Deluxe plan, covering currently serializing and completed titles. The cited listings describe libraries of more than 6,000 and 15,000 chapters respectively. These prices, chapter counts, title rules, and regional offerings can change, so readers outside the United States should check the service directly.
4. VIZ Shonen Jump and VIZ Manga: the strongest archive for major Japanese manga
For readers who mainly followed mainstream Japanese manga, VIZ Shonen Jump’s 20,000-plus chapter vault is one of the most substantial official replacements. VIZ offers same-day releases for many current chapters, free latest chapters, and a digital archive of more than 20,000 chapters for members.

VIZ is excellent for major Japanese publishers and Shueisha properties, but it is geographically narrower and less diverse in origin than Bato.to was. It is not a substitute for a broad manhwa-and-manhua archive.
