Barbra Streisand remembered Kris Kristofferson as a performer whose appeal was clear from the first time she saw him at Los Angeles’s Troubadour. Her tribute also recalled the artistic partnership that followed: the two starred together in the 1976 film A Star Is Born and shared its music, including the love theme “Evergreen” and the duet “Lost Inside of You.”

Rolling Stone Australia reproduced more of Streisand’s social-media post. She remembered him “Barefoot and strumming his guitar” and said he seemed like the right choice for a script she was developing, which eventually became A Star Is Born. The recollection connects her first impression of Kristofferson not just to his performance, but to the role he later played in the film.
How Streisand and Kristofferson worked together in A Star Is Born
Directed by Frank Pierson and released in 1976, A Star Is Born paired Streisand with Kristofferson, who played a rock star. The film gave their connection both a screen story and a musical one: Streisand wrote “Evergreen” as its main love theme, and the two performed songs together.
#1 Best Overall
Rolling Stone reports that “Evergreen” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and that Streisand and Kristofferson each received Golden Globe Awards for their performances. Those honors are part of the film’s context, rather than words from Streisand’s tribute.
The Hyde Park reunion and “Lost Inside of You”
Streisand’s remembrance also pointed to a later moment in their shared musical history. In her words as reproduced by Rolling Stone, she invited Kristofferson to join her onstage at London’s Hyde Park in 2019 to sing “Lost Inside of You,” another duet from A Star Is Born. She described it as part of her latest concert there.
The Hyde Park appearance brought their film collaboration into a live setting years later. It helps explain why Streisand’s tribute was especially personal: Kristofferson was not only an actor she had chosen for a project, but also a co-star and musical partner with whom she revisited the film’s songs.

The AP placed Streisand’s words among tributes from Dolly Parton, Martin Scorsese, Sheryl Crow, and others after Kristofferson’s death. Parton remembered him as a writer, actor, and friend; Scorsese recalled working with him on Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Their remembrances reflected different professional and personal connections, while Streisand’s was grounded in their particular history onstage and in A Star Is Born.
