Yes: Bang & Olufsen has revived the six-disc design as the limited-edition Beosystem 9000c. But “$53K” is historical headline framing, not a verified current U.S. price. The company’s Canada-localized product page showed $75,000 when checked; that figure is not a U.S. quote, and current U.S. stock and delivered pricing were not established.
What the Beosystem 9000c brings back
The Beosystem 9000c recreates the look and concept of the original Beosound 9000, a six-disc CD changer first introduced in 1996. It is not simply a newly designed generic changer: Bang & Olufsen says the revival was made through its Recreated Classics Programme, using original units as the basis for restoration and reimagining.
The original’s six CDs sat in a row beneath a motorized glass lid. The display made album covers visible as part of the system’s sculptural design, while a moving mechanism and touch-sensitive controls handled playback. Bang & Olufsen credits designer David Lewis and says the linear arrangement was inspired by six CD covers displayed in a London record shop. The company’s history also describes the original as a home changer designed to keep multiple discs readily available, with more than seven placement options.
How the recreation was made—and what the system includes
Bang & Olufsen says its Factory 3 in Struer, Denmark, worked from original units, using tools and workstations created decades earlier. The company’s 2023/24 annual report describes the 9000c as a restored and reimagined 1990s Beosound 9000 paired with modern Beolab 28 speakers. That system context matters: the 9000c story is not necessarily a price for a standalone CD deck, and the package should be checked for the relevant market before comparing prices.

Is it really $53,000?
That figure comes from earlier title-matching coverage, not a verified current U.S. quote. At the time of research, Bang & Olufsen’s Canada-localized product story showed a price of $75,000. Those figures are not a like-for-like comparison: geography, timing, currency display, package contents, taxes, and stock can change the amount a buyer sees. Current U.S. dealer inventory and final delivered checkout pricing were not established.
For a purchase decision, confirm the exact 9000c configuration, region-specific price, availability, warranty, and service arrangements directly with Bang & Olufsen or an authorized dealer. The price reflects a luxury design and restoration project with a modern speaker-system context, but those features alone do not establish whether it is worth the cost for a particular listener.

Who might want one—and what to compare
The 9000c is aimed at a listener who wants physical CDs to be both playable media and visible objects in a room. Someone seeking straightforward disc playback may prefer to compare the broader multi-disc CD player or CD changer category instead; that is a different-price category, not a recreation of Bang & Olufsen’s design or system package.
- Capacity and format: Decide whether you want a six-disc changer or simply need to play one CD at a time.
- Design: Consider whether displaying album artwork and a distinctive mechanism is part of the appeal, or whether you would rather keep a component out of sight.
- System scope: Check whether the offer is for the player alone or includes speakers and other system components.
- Ownership: Ask about local dealer support, warranty, servicing, and replacement parts, as well as current availability.
- Listening habits: The 9000c centers physical discs and their handling; streaming is a convenience-first alternative, not the same experience.
Bang & Olufsen describes the 9000c as “More than just a CD player” and frames it as a connection between past and present. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not an independent sound-quality comparison; the available product history does not establish how it performs against other players.
