What happens in the “Bad Sisters” Season 2 finale?
In “Cliff Hanger,” the Garvey sisters are trying to manage what they believe is Ian’s death and hide their involvement. Angelica has confessed to killing him, but that confession does not neatly take the danger away. Houlihan arrives prepared to arrest Angelica and the sisters, and the crisis puts the family at risk both with the police and within their own circle.

Apple’s official episode synopsis sums up the pressure: “As Houlihan discovers shocking revelations, the sisters face an impossible situation.” The finale is Season 2, Episode 8; Apple’s U.S. listing gives it a 52-minute runtime and a December 24, 2024 release date. Apple’s press episode guide lists December 25, reflecting a regional date difference.
Does Ian survive?
Yes. The attempt to deal with Ian’s body has not succeeded: he is alive and returns to Joe. The closing reveal turns the sisters’ efforts to contain the apparent death into a more immediate threat. An English subtitle transcript records Ian accusing them, “The Garveys tried to kill me.” That wording comes from an unofficial transcript rather than an official script, but the survival reveal is also reported in TVLine’s finale recap.

What does Angelica’s confession mean for the sisters?
Angelica’s confession does not settle the matter in the sisters’ favor. Houlihan is still prepared to arrest the group, and Ian’s return gives him the chance to accuse them directly. The finale therefore leaves the sisters facing two dangers at once: the police are already focused on them, and Ian is alive to tell Joe what he believes they did.
The episode does not establish whether the sisters are arrested, convicted, cleared, or ultimately safe. Its ending stops before those consequences are decided.

Why does the finale end with a goodbye to Grace?
The final flash-forward gathers the family to say goodbye to Grace. After the immediate crisis around Ian, this scene shifts the emphasis to the loss that has reshaped the sisters’ lives. Grace’s memory becomes part of the family’s shared story, providing an emotional farewell even as the plot’s practical danger remains unresolved.

It is the Season 2 finale, but that does not establish that the series or franchise is definitively over. Creator Sharon Horgan has described the season’s ending as feeling like an ending while she was writing it, which supports reading Grace’s farewell as emotional closure. The Ian reveal, however, leaves the immediate story at a literal cliffhanger. Those two things can be true at once: Grace receives a meaningful goodbye, while the sisters’ fate remains open.
