Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show wove Puerto Rican history and identity into its fields, flags, songs and staging. Some details have cultural context reported by the Associated Press; others are interpretations by TIME. Here are 15 moments to look for, with those distinctions kept clear.
What did the opening images say about Puerto Rico?
1. The sugarcane field
The show opened in a sugarcane field. The Associated Press connected the image to sugarcane’s place in Puerto Rico’s agricultural history and its importance as a major cash crop. It also evokes an earlier economy, before the island’s later economic transition. AP’s report on the show gives this historical context.
2. The jíbaros and their pavas
Among the performers were jíbaros—Puerto Rican farmers—wearing pavas, traditional straw hats. AP describes farmers as both active and culturally iconic in Puerto Rico. The hats and clothing therefore evoke a living rural identity, not just a period costume.
3. Bad Bunny’s white outfit
Bad Bunny wore white. AP noted that light clothing helps keep people cool in Caribbean heat, grounding the look in the climate as well as the performance’s broader visual palette.

Which flags and national references mattered?
4. The flag’s lighter blue
The Puerto Rican flag appeared in a lighter shade of blue than many viewers may expect. AP reported that the shade reflects the flag’s original design and is closely associated with the independence movement. That is a historical association reported by AP, not a meaning that can be inferred from color alone.
5. Puerto Rican and Mexican flags on the boxers
Boxers Xander Zayas and Emiliano Vargas appeared with Puerto Rican and Mexican flags on their shorts. AP connected the pairing to the long-standing Puerto Rico–Mexico boxing rivalry.

6. The closing roll call of the Americas
At the close, Bad Bunny said “God Bless America” and named countries across the continent, according to the NFL recap. The roll call widened the show’s frame beyond Puerto Rico and the United States, making the ending a pan-American gesture.
What did the house, guests and wedding add?
7. The casita returns
The small house, or casita, is a familiar part of Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS tour staging, the NFL recap notes. Its appearance brought an established element of his live visual world into the halftime show.

8. A circle of guests with ties across the Americas
AP identified Cardi B, Karol G, Young Miko, Jessica Alba, Pedro Pascal and baseball player Ronald Acuña Jr. among the people gathered around the casita. Their presence made the scene feel like a social gathering as well as a concert tableau, with guests connected to different parts of the Americas.
9. A real couple in wedding attire
A bride and groom took part in the performance; AP and TIME both described an onstage wedding. The documented detail is their participation in the show. There is no need to assume more about the couple or the ceremony to appreciate the contrast between an intimate life event and a stadium-scale production.

10. Lady Gaga turns a pop hit into salsa
Lady Gaga joined Bad Bunny for a salsa version of “Die With a Smile,” then danced with him, TIME reported. The arrangement shifted the song into a different musical tradition rather than presenting it as a straightforward reprise.
11. Ricky Martin sings “Lo Que Pasó en Hawaii”
Ricky Martin performed “Lo Que Pasó en Hawaii.” TIME interpreted the song as addressing Hawaii’s plight as another U.S. sugar colony. That historical reading is TIME’s analysis; it should not be mistaken for a statement of Bad Bunny’s confirmed intent.

Which stage moments carried a sharper political reading?
12. “El Apagón” and the power lines
During “El Apagón,” dancers dressed as maintenance workers appeared to repair power lines, with sparks as part of the staging. TIME read the scene as an allusion to Puerto Rico’s frequent blackouts. That is a published critical interpretation of what the imagery evokes.
13. A set list that moved between celebration and reflection
The NFL recap names “Tití Me Preguntó” and “Mónaco” among the songs in the show, alongside the guest performances. Apple Music later identified “DtMF,” “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” and “Tití Me Preguntó” as the most-streamed Bad Bunny tracks immediately after the performance. These are two different kinds of information: the first documents selections from the show, while the second reports listening activity on Apple Music after it.
14. His introduction framed the moment around belief
In the NFL recap, Bad Bunny introduced himself by name and said that reaching Super Bowl 60 came from never stopping believing in himself, then urged viewers to believe in themselves and remember their worth. The statement made the performance’s message personal as well as cultural.
What did Bad Bunny say before the show?
15. Pride without limits
At an Apple Music press event before the performance, Bad Bunny said: “You always have to be proud of who you are and where you’re from. But don’t let that limit where you can go.” He also said he wanted to bring his culture to the stage and did not want to give away spoilers, according to the NFL’s account of the pre-show interview. Those remarks provide context for the performance’s celebration, but they do not confirm a specific intended meaning for every symbol.

Apple reported that Bad Bunny listens on Apple Music increased sevenfold immediately after the show. The company also named “DtMF,” “BAILE INoLVIDABLE” and “Tití Me Preguntó” as his most-streamed songs in that immediate post-show period. These are Apple platform figures, not a measure of listening across all services. See Apple’s February 9, 2026 report.
