The “Bachelor” alum Sean Lowe rushed to ER after his dog attacks him story concerns two separate emergency-room visits in March 2025. Lowe said his rescue Boxer, Moose, bit and injured him during a barbecue and attacked again the next day. Lowe received stitches both times; Moose’s final disposition has not been publicly confirmed.

Lowe described the incident in a March 17, 2025 Instagram video, saying the dog attacked him while he was responding to smoke in the family home and then attacked again after escaping the following day. The account comes primarily from Lowe and subsequent reports, not a publicly released official incident report.

Key takeaways

  • Sean Lowe said his rescue Boxer, Moose, attacked him during a barbecue on March 13, 2025, sending him to an emergency room for stitches.
  • Lowe said Moose attacked again the following day after escaping through an open door, requiring a second emergency-room visit and additional stitches.
  • Lowe and Catherine Giudici decided Moose could not remain in a home with their three young children and contacted animal control, the rescue agency, and shelters.
  • Lowe suggested Moose might have experienced earlier trauma, but that was his interpretation—not a confirmed veterinary or behavioral diagnosis.
  • Reports available through December 2025 did not confirm what ultimately happened to Moose.

What happened during the first attack?

According to Sean Lowe’s March 17, 2025 Instagram video, the first attack happened on Thursday, March 13, while he was barbecuing with friends at his home. Smoke entered the house and activated the smoke alarm, so Lowe went inside holding a dish rag to waft the smoke away.

Lowe said Moose initially nipped at the rag and one of his fingers. The dog then bit at Lowe’s feet, punctured his shoes, and attacked his arm. Friends helped move Moose into the backyard, after which Lowe noticed that the wound on his arm was deep and bleeding heavily.

Friends drove Lowe to an emergency room. Lowe said doctors placed stitches in “five or six” locations on his arm. ABC News’ account of Lowe’s injuries and Instagram video attributes the attack sequence, bleeding, and treatment details to Lowe rather than to an independent incident report.

Why did Moose attack Sean Lowe a second time?

Lowe said Moose attacked him again the next day after escaping through an open door. Lowe’s parents were expected to help collect the children, but the open door gave Moose an opportunity to get out while people were moving around the home.

Lowe said he wrestled Moose to the ground and held the dog until police or animal-control personnel arrived. The second incident also led to an emergency-room visit and additional stitches. CBS News’ report on the two attacks likewise describes the second emergency-room treatment based on Lowe’s account.

The available reporting does not establish a veterinary explanation for Moose’s behavior. Lowe described the change as frightening and speculated that the dog may have experienced trauma before the family adopted him. “Trauma caused the attack” should not be presented as an established finding, and phrases such as “neurologically wrong” or “absolute killer” reflect Lowe’s emotional impressions rather than clinical diagnoses.

Why could Moose no longer stay with the family?

Lowe and Catherine Giudici said they could not safely keep Moose in the home after two serious incidents involving a family with three young children. Lowe said the couple loved Moose and was trying to find a safe outcome rather than assigning blame to the dog or the rescue organization.

The family had adopted Moose only a few months earlier, with media reports placing the adoption in late December 2024 or January 2025. Reports identified Moose as an adult Boxer, with some describing him as approximately seven years old. The Los Angeles Times’ report on Lowe’s account describes Moose as a dog the family had recently adopted and notes the uncertainty surrounding his history.

Lowe said he contacted local animal control, the rescue or adoption agency, and no-kill shelters while trying to determine where Moose could be placed safely. Lowe said he did not blame the rescue organization and continued to describe Moose affectionately, calling him a “really, really good dog” despite the attacks. The family’s safety decision and Lowe’s affection for Moose are not mutually exclusive: a dog can be loved while still being unsafe to keep around children after unexplained attacks.

Lowe later said the experience remained traumatic. In a December 24, 2025 podcast-related update, he said he now thought twice about behavior such as putting his face close to a dog’s face. Us Weekly’s follow-up report covered that reflection but did not provide a confirmed account of Moose’s final placement.
