There is no single reliable monthly price for running a 24/7 YouTube channel on AWS Elemental MediaLive in India. The bill depends on the AWS Region, channel class, inputs, outputs, add-ons and runtime; GST treatment depends on the billing entity and payer’s tax profile. The published AWS examples available here use US East (N. Virginia), not Mumbai, so they are not India quotes. Build the configuration in the AWS Pricing Calculator and verify tax on the actual invoice.
How MediaLive charges for a 24/7 channel
AWS says to add the cost of each input, each output and any enabled add-on. Charges accrue while a channel is running even when an input is not receiving content or an output is not producing content. Idle-resource and data-transfer charges may also apply. - Region: Select Mumbai or the Region you will actually deploy in. A Mumbai price is not established by the US East examples below; use the calculator for the selected Region.
- Channel class: Single-pipeline uses one processing pipeline in one Availability Zone. Standard uses two pipelines in different Availability Zones for additional resiliency, at a different rate.
- Inputs: Specify input count and type, codec, resolution and bitrate. A running attached input can be billed even when inactive or not receiving content; switching inputs can change how many are billed. AWS lists supported input types in its MediaLive FAQs.
- Outputs: Each configured output contributes cost. Output pricing depends on codec, bitrate, resolution and frame rate. AWS notes that if frame rate initializes from the source, it may provision the greater-than-30-fps pricing tier.
- Add-ons: Advanced audio, audio normalization and motion graphics can add per-channel cost.
- Runtime and idle resources: A continuously running channel accumulates charges across its runtime. Push inputs may also incur idle-resource charges while unused; AWS says pulled inputs do not incur that idle input charge.
What published AWS examples can—and cannot—tell you
AWS’s pricing page gives a US East (N. Virginia) example of a specified standard channel with two HEVC HD inputs, five AVC outputs and advanced audio at $3.942 per hour on demand. This is an example for that stated configuration and Region, not a forecast for an unspecified YouTube channel or a Mumbai deployment.
A separate AWS example for a specified configuration with one input and a 12-month commitment lists $564.12 for a 30-day month reserved, compared with $2,414.88 on demand. These are region- and configuration-specific AWS examples, not an India monthly quote. The pricing page advertises savings of up to 75% versus on-demand with a 12-month commitment; “up to” is a maximum, not a guaranteed saving. AWS says reserved pricing can be used for channels running more than 180 hours a month, and reservations are charged for every hour of each commitment month and apply to matching component reservations. Details can change; check the current AWS pricing page.

AWS’s Live Streaming on AWS deployment guide also shows MediaLive input and outputs at $1.99 per hour in a one-hour sample workflow. That is a sample configuration, not a general rate or an India estimate. It illustrates why a MediaLive subtotal is not necessarily the whole delivery bill: packaging/origination and viewer delivery through services such as MediaPackage and CloudFront are separate components. Audience size and bitrate can materially affect delivery spending.
How GST applies to an AWS bill in India
AWS’s India tax guidance, last updated March 2026, says AWS India charges GST on its cloud-service sales to customers in India. It states that Delhi customers are charged 9% CGST plus 9% SGST, while customers in other states are charged 18% IGST. For a simple illustration where 18% GST applies to the taxable AWS subtotal, multiply that subtotal by 1.18; Delhi’s stated CGST and SGST rates also sum to 18%.

The same AWS Tax Help page for India distinguishes AWS India sales from purchases from Amazon Web Services, Inc. outside India. It describes 18% IGST for non-business OIDAR customers and gives separate instructions for registered business customers. Do not determine the tax-inclusive total from physical location alone: confirm the contracting/billing entity, payer tax profile and actual invoice. Registered businesses should update the payer and linked accounts with the GSTIN and registered address in AWS tax settings. Eligibility for input tax credit depends on applicable law and the customer’s circumstances; the AWS guidance does not decide an individual business’s eligibility.
Estimate your actual monthly cost
- Describe the source: Record the source device or software, input protocol, codec, resolution and bitrate.
- Define the output ladder: List every output with its codec, resolution, bitrate and explicit frame rate.
- Choose deployment settings: Select Mumbai or the actual AWS Region, and choose single-pipeline or standard based on the resiliency you need.
- Add runtime and features: Include any add-ons, continuous channel hours and possible idle push-input time.
- Price the MediaLive configuration: Enter those details in the AWS Pricing Calculator. Keep the Region and on-demand or commitment basis visible in your estimate.
- Include the rest of the workflow: Separately account for required packaging, origin, storage, CDN or internet transfer services. Estimate viewer delivery against your audience and bitrate assumptions; do not label a MediaLive-only figure as the complete YouTube workflow cost.
- Check tax: Apply the treatment shown for the actual billing entity and payer settings. A registered business should verify its invoice and tax-credit treatment with its finance or tax adviser where needed.
Label the result as either MediaLive-only or whole workflow, name the Region and configuration, distinguish on-demand from commitment pricing, and state whether GST is included. Do not present a precise INR monthly total until the Mumbai estimate, billing basis and payer-specific tax treatment have been checked.
