Yes. Both Avengers films moved from their original May release windows to December: Avengers: Doomsday is listed by Disney for December 18, 2026, in the U.S., while trade coverage reports Avengers: Secret Wars for December 17, 2027. The evidence for the current Doomsday date is Disney’s U.S. listing; the current Secret Wars date is reported by TechRadar, not verified here against an official Disney listing.
What are the new release dates?
| Film | Original announced window | Current date | Source and status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avengers: Doomsday | May 2026 | December 18, 2026 | Disney’s U.S. film page lists the date and says the film will release exclusively in theaters. Disney UK lists December 16, 2026, so dates vary by territory. Disney Movies; Disney UK press kit. |
| Avengers: Secret Wars | May 2027 | December 17, 2027 | TechRadar’s October 2026 coverage reports this as the scheduled date; it is not confirmed here by a current official Disney listing. TechRadar. |
Disney announced the original May windows on July 27, 2024, naming Anthony and Joe Russo as directors of both films. The company also said AGBO would produce them with Marvel Studios and Stephen McFeely would write the script. The Walt Disney Company’s announcement.
When were the films moved from May to December?
The original dates came from Disney’s July 2024 announcement: May 2026 for Doomsday and May 2027 for Secret Wars. The current dates are December 18, 2026, for Doomsday on Disney’s U.S. page and December 17, 2027, for Secret Wars in the reviewed trade coverage. The sources used here establish the original and current dates, but do not establish an official reason for either move.
Has Secret Wars been delayed again?
No further release-date move is confirmed in the available coverage. TechRadar discussed online claims that filming could begin in January 2027, but characterized a release-date slip as conjecture and reported that Disney and Marvel had not officially commented. A production-start rumor is not a schedule announcement.

What is known about production?
The Associated Press reported in 2026 that the Russos were finishing scoring and editing work on Doomsday while “soft prepping” Secret Wars. AP described the films as consecutive Avengers productions and quoted Joe Russo on the challenge of making two films. This is reporting based on interviews, not an official production bulletin. Associated Press.
Speaking about Doomsday and its large ensemble, Anthony Russo asked: “The MCU is this massive experiment in how vast, how much scope can an ensemble really have?” Associated Press.

Why do release dates differ by country?
A release date should be read in its territory context. Disney’s U.S. listing gives Doomsday as December 18, 2026, while Disney’s UK press kit says December 16, 2026. For U.S. planning, the Disney U.S. page is the relevant listing; it should not be treated as a global date.
