Original Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines returned to the programme’s main panel for its 2024 season, promoted as the show’s 20th-anniversary season. The season premiered on 29 January 2024 on Channel 7 and 7plus, with Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark joining Hines as judges.
What the 20th-anniversary label meant
The 2024 season marked 20 years since the first Australian season, which crowned Guy Sebastian. It was also the programme’s ninth season—a count of seasons, not years since its debut. Contemporary PerthNow coverage described Hines as an original judge and noted that the first panel also included Ian “Dicko” Dickson and Mark Holden.
Hines returned as a full-time judge
Hines was part of the original panel and appeared as a guest judge during the 2023 revival. For the 2024 season, she returned to the main judging panel alongside Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark. Ricki-Lee Coulter and Scott Tweedie hosted.
Eureka Productions announced the season on 27 November 2023, with the premiere scheduled for Monday 29 January 2024 on Channel 7 and 7plus.

The announcement concerned the 2024 season, not a new return in 2026. Seven said in its March 2024 release that the programme would return in 2025. Hines’s official site later announced her for the 2026 season; that later casting is separate from her 2024 return.
