The City of Perth reported more than 150,000 revellers across the City—not at Langley Park alone—as people watched from several locations around the river.
What happened at Perth’s 2026 Australia Day celebrations?
The City of Perth presented the event at Langley Park on the Swan River foreshore on 26 January 2026, with Hancock Prospecting as principal partner and assistance from the Australian Government through the Australia Day Council. The City’s preview advertised a light show from 8:30 to 9:00 p.m., combining fireworks and drone formations. It noted that wind could affect timing, so those times describe the announced schedule, not a verified minute-by-minute account of the show. In its post-event report, the City said more than 150,000 revellers attended celebrations across the City. This is the City’s reported citywide figure, not an independently audited count and not a Langley Park-only attendance total. The City also reported that 70 new Australian citizens were welcomed at its citizenship and awards ceremony earlier that day. City of Perth post-event report
Where could people watch the fireworks?
Before the event, the City described Langley Park as the best viewing location. Its post-event account also named Kings Park, South Perth, Terrace Road apartments and Elizabeth Quay as places where crowds gathered. These are reported viewing areas, not a ranking: the City did not publish a scored comparison of sightlines, comfort or accessibility. City of Perth event preview · City of Perth post-event report
